I'm switching from an Englander standalone unit to a Quadra Fire Castile insert. I do not have a chimney but will be making a faux fireplace wall and need to run the piping behind it through the roof. Looking for tips from anyone who has done this. Does anyone make a kit for the 3" pipe to do this? Most of the kits are "Wall" kits.

As you can see from my avatar I have mine vertically vented.

It runs straight up 13' through a shallow sloped roof.

Simpson Duravent is available with a vertical roof kit. Simple to install. Some don't care for the brand but it has served me well.

If you know a little bit about roofing it will be no problem installing.

Basically, all you need to do is place your stove with clean out T into its location. Probe around your ceiling to make sure you won't hit a rafter.
Use a plumb bob to line up the vent hole. Then you are all set.

You will have to observe the 2' in 10' rule about vent termination.
Basically your vent has to protrude from the roof in such a way that it is 2' above anything within 10' horizontally.

Follow local codes, and it pays to check with your inspector before hand. Sometimes they want more than code.
They will appreciate a pre-install call.

Good Luck,

Thanks nailed. I am using Simpson duravent on my old englander and never had a problem.

I punched a 2" hole through the exterior wall just behind the stove. I attached some flexible steel exhaust pipe to stove inlet. I transitioned that to PVC to go through wall. On the outside I attached a 90 degree PVC elbow (facing down). Into the elbow I slid in some 1/4"x1/4" mesh screening folder over a few times (to keep the bugs out in the summer). All OAK joints are taped with aluminum tape.

BTW, I purchased my Simpson vent from my local fireplace/stove shop (Sandwich Fireplace). They were more $$$ but they basically designed the vent setup for me and the were friendly and willing to help where I needed it. Knowing what I know now, I would probably buy the parts online.

I would post photos, but for some reason I can't get my Photobucket pictures to post here.
Good Luck,
