Hello all,

I'm running a Harman P61A. Second year burning stove, but stove is 6 years old. Noticing some decent flames behind the burn pot - just below the fire brick and sometimes reaching just above fire brick. Also, noticing some smoke rising from behind the burn pot periodically. Would seem I'm catching some of the auger pellets on fire. Did a complete clean two days ago and really scraped entire burn pot area, removed and cleaned fire brick, the whole 9 yards. Anyone else see this on their stoves? Any need for worry? Thanks in advance! Cheers!

The only time I saw this happen was when I neglected a good cleaning on my P61A. Ash buildup caused the top iron piece on the firepot to lift up causing flames to route behind the burn pot. Regular good cleaning/maintenance schedule eliminated this completely for me.

agreed with Mgam....most likely a cleaning issue, BUT, could also be your flame guide is warped and getting ready to fail....this causes it not to sit tightly and can cause the "flame behind the burnpot" issue as well....

Thanks. As mentioned - I did a complete clean and really made sure I scraped the area in back of the burnpot to make sure all of the buildup was gone. The steel burnpot 'lid' was cleaned well too - I scraped the recessed sides to be sure it was sitting flush. So....I'll wait and see if this persists. Thanks again. Cheers!

The cast iron 'brick' panel on my Advance tends to make the flame guide tilt up a bit at the back. For about a half day *after* a thorough cleaning some flame and a bit of smoke curls around and licks back up the left outside of the burn pot. It must settle back down or fill with ash after a while and plug off the opening because it always goes away and I haven't spent the time to adjust the angle on the edge of the brick panel yet.

Thanks Charles - seems to be getting better - will keep an eye on it! Cheers!

I get it sometimes. Once, I really got it when I didn't have the top fire guide in place correctly. If the guide is in place, I wouldn't worry about it if it burns out after a while. MIne does it for a while and then burns out.

Check the top plate on the burn box to make sure it is seated back all the way.
