This morning while opening one of the front double doors on the stove for cleaning it was slightly stuck and you guessed it.... it cracked. I think the glass slightly may have shifted under the tabs. The four tabs were tight when I took the glass out. The stove wasn't overfired or anything so I'm hoping it was just a freak thing. My question is I'm planning to order the neoCeram from "One Day Glass" they have a pretty good rep. Does anyone know where I can get or what I should use under the metal tabs which hold the glass to the frame? When I took the tabs off it looked like something was there but I couldn't make it out and it just seemed to disintegrate.

Wishing you all a Happy and Safe New Yew Year.

Check your local hearth shop & see if they have any fiberglass tape gasket...
It comes in varying widths & thicknesses & sometimes has a pre-applied adhesive on it...
If you can't find any tape style, a small piece of 1/4" round gasket will probably do what you want...

Thanks for the info. I will look into it.

Ordered the glass from local stove shop yesterday. Cost was $114 for one panel with the gasket. Now I have to wait 7 days and temps are in the 20's and 30's here. Oil burner kicking on while wood pile sits idle :(

How bad was it cracked? my inserts been cracked for over a year, I caulked it with furnace cement, looks like crap but sure works good, they want over $200 for a replacement cause it's a wierd shape.....

We had a customer who broke a glass on a 7100, and they really wanted to burn it while waiting for new glass. They took a cookie tin and cut it to fit and clamped that where the glass was supposed to go. Pretty funny but I guess it worked. I saw their door laying at the shop. They have had broken glass a few times and we wanted to install it ourselves to make sure nothing was done wrong.

Anyway... under the tabs... its the same stuff they use for some of the gaskets on pellet stoves. like a felt almost. I saw in the pellet forum someone had bought a sheet and was making their own gaskets out of it. Not sure what it was called though. If I replace a glass I usually just leave it and put the tab right on the glass. Never broken one yet. You just have to make the tabs snug, but not tight. If you replace the gasket between glass and stove, check the tightness every day for a week or so, cause it will get loose.

Great idea. The glass is in two pieces. a piece about 3" x 6" cracked off in the upper left hand corner. If I can use the furnace cement that would get me back in business till the replacement comes. Family getting impatient with my stubbornness to raise the thermostat passed 68. All there blood has thinned out since their used to 75 or better with the stove cranked!

Used the furnace cement on the glass. Also had to do a little glass grinding. For some reason the glass was hitting metal on the stove. Stove lit, on its way to cruising temperature. I'm sitting back chilling till the heat cranks. Still spent a hundred bucks on replacement glass coming sometime in the next week or so.

Happy New Year.

Good for you! I'll replace the stove before I do the glass..
