I went to the HD in fishkill and they had several tons of the new pellets, Winter Warmth ( I had called the one in Poughkeepsie and the woman said they had them, but after driving there they did not) I bought 3 bags at $5.98 (or $249 a ton) Have to agree with investor, pellets were small, dark, not alot of true fines but many very small pellets 1/4"and smaller. Burned very well though, full 20-30* hotter at the vent then Penningtons. Running the stove in auto 3 ( of 9 ) all night house was a warm 75* this AM. Can't comment much on the ash as stove is dirty now from week of running , but looks fine to me. I'm on the fence about another ton right now, but after stove cleaning tomorrow and running the other 2 bags through I think I will decide between Marths or Winters Warmth if I get another ton.

Schoondog,

How did the temps compare to the Marth's?

just curious.

I've burnt 20 bags of these pellets (Winter Warmth)......Not much different from the High End pellets and at 4.98 a bag I'm going to keep on burning these pellets.............No more 6.49 a bag pellets for me..........I'm satisfied with these pellets....

Schoon, don't know how the new pellet will stack-up against them, but if you can still get the Marth, they are a great pellet.

Based on what I saw, and also what Jay saw when he did his "mini" test, the Marth's are the "sleeper" pellet of the year, IMO. I loved them! My HD only had a couple tons when I bought my test bags, and they were gone within a week.

Picked up 6 bags today of winter warmth from HD. I took 2 from each of 3 open skids
If I didnt know any better I would swear hammer bagged all there crap that wasnt good enough to go into there normal bags. There are more particles and small garbage peices in 3 bags I opened. If you run these through a 3/16 in filter screen I think you would lose half the bag. I burned through anout 1/2 a bag and heat not bad at all. Around 235-240. I wouldnt go out of my way to buy these unles I could get them for aLOT LESS THAT 248 A TON. I can get all the lignetics and barefoots I want right now for 255 a ton so no need to save 7 dollars a ton to buy crap when you can buy 100% better quality for pennies on the bag. Again heat not bad but go ahead and do a normal filter and not much left to burn.

Hello, I agree with you that there are a lot of small pieces in the bags, none are over 1 inch( pic below). My Englander 25PDVC loves these though, they feed thru it smoothly! I've had bridging problems in my stove hopper with other pellets being too long and feeding erratically. These Winter Warmth pellets feed thru the augers with no problems and quietly too, I empty the entire bag in the hopper without sifting. These WW pellets throw really good heat and my fire inside is consistent. We're limited up here in Maine as to a few local brands and whatever the Big Box stores carry. I've burned the newer variety of Corinth( Maine) Pellets and they are a very good consistent pellet, Athens were Ok too. The recent Penningtons are good and burn much cleaner than last years and hotter too. The Bayou pellets are horrible... There's a few other national brands available here but I haven't tried them because they didn't fare well in this forum.
So from my point of view, the Winter Warmth ( Hamer's Hot Ones) are the best I've tried of what I can buy here in Maine. I bought a ton of them this week because I liked them. ----Lorne.

I bought a bag yesterday and are burning them today and they look the same as yours. I had quite a bit of fines at the end of the bag though but my 25 seems to eat those up just fine. Seems to be burning great so far....a lot hotter than the TreeCycles I got.

Hi, you probably noticed that the augers are quieter too, you don't hear the grinding noise of them breaking the long pellets that other brands have. I've been burning them all week and am really happy with the heat output. A couple of the bags had about 1/2 a cup of fines in them but most just have some smaller pieces that averaged under 1/4 inch. These go right thru my Englander 25PDVC nice and slick. The temps on my stove are averaging 230-245 running on a feed rate of 2 and a blower speed of 3. Temps are taken with an el cheapo oven thermometer on the L/H side of the stove blower. So far so good and I'm happy and toasty warm even in the midst of a bad Winter storm right now!---Lorne.

Hamer is a great pellet....only hope they can survive with a "big box" as a client!

I am guessing alot of the main folks and others are limited to what they can buy in there area. I guess some of us are spoiled who have 7-10 brands to pick from. Like I said if its between these and penningtons I will taker the winter warmth all day long. I would even buy these before the stove chow only becuase of the better heat output. The only thing I wish I had access to here in NJ are softwoods.Just not alot of dealers and I include the big boxes on this that carry softwoods.

Just an observation on my part Investor......your original post to start this thread: "Anyway I didnt buy any becuase I have spent enough on experimental bags I already can tell are garbage."

Like the old saying, "beauty is only skin deep".

And as for the Stove Chow (stove crap), they are on a par with ACP's, from what I've read.

You are correct macman beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But you know this pellet hobby is as addicting as fishing lol. When you here someone is catching them on a certain lure you gotta rush out and buy a couple. I should have just picked up the bags try them then post my findings instead of speculating. But for some these winter warmth are probably better than some they are useing.Like I said some of us get spoiled with the choices we have and as they say "one mans junk is another mans treasure" !!

Jay,
Unofficially I think Winters Warmth may be a few degrees hotter than the Marths. I have added the second bag of Winters Warmth into the hopper on top of Marths an hour ago and it appears the thermometer rose a few degrees. I will see after checking tomorrow mornings temps. I can buy Marths at $4.98 per bag so I will probably stay with them. I can put 10 or so bags at a time in the car as truck is on the mend right now. Also spreads out the money a little. No discount on the bag for the winters warmth, but $249 a ton.

Jay,
Unofficially the winters warmth may be a few degrees hotter than the Marths. I topped off the hopper with winters warmth on top of marths an hour or so ago and temps have gone up a few degrees. I wiil know better tomorrow morning. Nice to see another fair to good pellet being sold for reasonable price. $249 for a ton of marths is good. If the winters warmth pellet does end up as hot as marth then add them to the good list. I stated late last year that if the industry could make a good pellet for $250 a ton I would buy them. And I will.

Schoondog

sorry for the double post ... didn't see the first one thought I lost it !

I picked 5 bags yesterday at HD in Binghamton. They burn great in my stove but with lots of fines in them. Jeff

wish I could get those winter warmth again.....will keep an eye out.....

..

I'll check glastonbury ct HD today, i'm on a Winter Warmth Quest!!

I was out and about yesterday stopping at pellet house's and other pellet retailers(looking for lignetics green label hardwood only). I was in bristol so I stopped at the HD there on Route 6. They had the Tomorrows Energy and Penningtons. I will try to stop in the Torrington HD this weekend to see whats there.

Anybody try the HD in Danbury or New Milford?

Hey you Conn. guys the HD in Fishkill is right off of Rt. 84 on to Rt. 9, 30 min. or so from Danbury. They had 10 +tons last week.

Sounds like we need to do a little trading. I will probably take a few days off in February when my son has his winter school break. Meet you in Danbury somewhere maybe.

Scoon, Thanks for the tip, Us CT piggies thank you for it. Does fishkill charge tax on pellets?

Funny how HD is not selling there exclusive bagged brand everywhere. You would think they would tought there branding better than the others there selling.

Still can't believe all the pellet selections we have. So much for them having a fiber shortage. Pellets, pellets everywhere!

I may have to break down and get me some of them okies. My sister lives in Naugatauk, maybe she can get a few bags for me. And hey you Conn. guys, leave me and Mac some of the winter warmths !!

I was at the Glastonbury HD Sunday.

All they had was something called Freedom Fuel and the garbage Penningtons.

I wouldn't touch freedom fuel with a 10-ft pole: burn dirty, lots of ash, less heat than Pennington;

If you are still looking, I found Winter Warmth at HD in Stratford, CT, Sunday - Might be a haul for you though

Good luck

Appears only winter warmth sightings are in extreme southern ct along the shore.
Yes those freedom fuel were ok, but piney woods/tommorow energy? are alot worse.

saw a partial pallet of the winter warmth at HD in Salem, Ohio, also 3 full pallets of bayou pellets. didn't have room in the trunk to get any of the ww to try. hoping to get back soon and see if they still have some left.
