Last year I installed a high efficiency wood stove in NY state (primary residence heat).

I have sincxe heard there is a tax rebate for this for 2009. I finished the install last December (08). Anyone know if those incentives were available last year, if so could I re file or account in this tears return?

Thanks and Regards,

Larry S.

The tax incentive is for the calendar year 2009 & extends thru 31 Dec 10.
You can tell the IRS that you did it in 09 & unless you get audited & they
ask to see the receipts, you should be OK. Morally, it's wrong, but it's YOUR karma...

From what I have heard, the determining factor is " the date the stove was put in service", whatever that means.
Did you get it inspected from building official? If inspected in 09 you could probably use that as put in service date.

There has been a lot of discussion on this and nobody seems to know exactly what "put in service" means. I would think that your stove couldn't be "put in service" until it was inspected.
