The lower chamber U shaped blocks where are they supposed to be placed in relation to front to back of the boiler.
does it make a difference I have mine all the way to the back is this right? It dosen`t mention any thing in the manual.

I have mine someplace right near the center. If I were to go one way or another I think I would go closer to the back wall, further from the door...

When I used that brick, I placed it firm to the back wall. The advantage of this is that the fly ash gets directed to the front and that way gives less build up under the fire tubes.
 
I remember someone on this board saying that if they are placed all the way to the back that will increase the distance the 'smoke' and heat has to travel and therefore more efficent. That's how I have mine place. Plus like hogstoker said no ash falling off the back side.
 
Not bad I may have actually done somthing right accidently....Not that my wife would agree.

That used to be the reaction here too, untill the utility bill started the go waaaaay down ;-)
 
I am running the similar EKO 60 i placed a fire brick on end, all the way to the back, in the middle against the heat exchanger area to PROTECT the steel, then butted the u block against that, that shifts everything forward. On my 60 i went one step further, in between the two U blocks I also used fire brick, one on each side standing up on end to try to match the U block height, then a half brick in the middle of the two verticle bricks matching the bottom of the U blocks. In other words I use 3 and a half regular fire bricks in addition to the 2 U shape blocks.

What is the purpose of the extra fire brick in between the two U blocks?
 
It puts my U shape blocks directly under the nozzles front and back. Dave
 
I'm running a 40 and have tried the placement flush against the back and also more centered. I had also asked the question before, then decided to tinker/experiment with it.

My personal findings mirror what others have said. Much less ash build up under the heat exchanger tubes with the refractory pushed flush against the rear wall. I think that it forces increased nozzle exhaust time in the lower chamber which seems to keep the unit hotter (read higher exiting water from the boiler). What I mean is that I seem to get a few more degrees of increase per pass through the boiler.
