Hello Everyone,

Last May, I purchased a new Woodstock Fireview and it is working great! Many of you helped with my questions and in pricing my old stove (Consolidated Dutchwest-Federal) for sale. Both the buyer and I were happy with the sale of the Dutchwest--my first stove for 20 years.

The Fireview has been great--I now burn 24/7. Never did this before with the Dutchwest, but now very easy. My wife constantly tells me how nice the new stove is and what a good investment "we" made! Well this is another first, she really did not like the old stove very much.

Thought you might like to see how my hearth was decked out for our Christmas. Will use the pic for my avatar to remind me how great this first season was using the stove.

Thanks for a great fourm!

Hello and thanks for all the kind words. We really are enjoying our new stove and did not realize how much enjoyment we get from watching the fire.

The only problem . . .
I have to make sure I use enough of oil or my oil company will drop me &^)

Thanks again for all the help and kind words!

Looks awesome John. Great to here the stove is working so well for you. How many square foot are you heating?

Hi Todd,

Thanks! Our house is a cape ann with two floors and approximately 2,300 sq. ft. total. The stove is in a large family room that opens to the kitchen and other rooms through the hall. The first floor: family room, kitchen, dinning, bath and living room stay 69 to 72 F. This depends on the size of the load in the fire box and my draft adjustment and time of day. I would estimate these areas are 1,100 to 1,200 sq. ft. Also, the fireview gives a constant temperature allowing fine adjustments using the draft control. My wife and I like to have the room temperature warm, but not excessively hot. This tweaking of the temperature is very easy with the fireview. I am still learning the best adjustments for the draft control. Once my fire gets burning at a good pace and 500 degrees for combustor, I usually adjust the draft to 1 or less. I have a very good draft with this stove using a 6" stainless liner with insulation. The second floor: three bedrooms, bath and small utility room. We keep these very cool--60 F or above. We keep our home very comfortable for us! My wife never complimented our old stove, but she does now! Also, use a ceiling fan in the family room with the stove--run the fan counter-clock-wise at slow speed.

Just a note, I never had very good burn times with my old consolidated dutchwest federal. If lucky, I would get 6 hours of burn time (red coals). One time this season after having cranked up the fireview up for a few days, I stopped burning because of an upswing in outside temperature. I would never had imagined that over 20 hours later there were still red coals in the firebox ideal to start burning again. I know all the elements must of been perfect that day, but still I was very impressed!

Todd, I know you have used your fireview much longer and would appreciate any hints or recommendations.

Thanks,
John

John, that is absolutely beautiful. Congratulations to you.

btw, last night I was watching our Fireview and at 400 degrees set the draft to .25. I did not look at the time but a little later I looked and there was just a few red coals to see in the window but the stove top temperature was then at 500. About 1/2 hour later the stovetop was 600. It topped out just shy of 700. Felt great too! The wood was all white ash except for one piece of soft maple.

I've had a few of those 20 hour burns as well. With this cold weather we are having here I like to load my stove 3 times per 24 hours and burn at .75-1 which gives me a good flame and red hot coals. Sometimes I need to open up the air about an hour before reload to reduce the coal bed. I've noticed much more heat from this stove when there is more red in the fire box even though the stove top can be relatively cooler compared to a smouldering fire with a 700 degree stove top.

Congratulations, John. That is drop dead gorgeous and I'm glad the stove is working so well for you.

Congratulations,

I am a first year Fireview burner also with similar experience. I am now burning 24/7, something I was never able to do with my previous stove. The wife has also become very good at running the stove.

One of the best purchases I have ever made.

Beautiful setup. Maybe, must maybe, that beautiful hearth with that beautiful stove has done the most to make the wife happy.
