Hello I installed my XXV yesterday and have already ran through 4 bags of pellets. I set my room temp at 70 and feeder rate at 4. My living room temp goes from 63-67. I got this stove to heat my entire house (1700ish sq ft) and I feel it does not even heat my living room. I am wondering what people think is the problem. I have not messed with the draft setting at all. I read all the time on here people use 1 bag a day or 1 bag in 19 hrs and their house is 71 degrees. How can I not even get my living room to be 70 degrees where the stove is!?

Any help would be great!

Thank you!

First time post and reader of the site!

Where is your temperature probe located? Make sure the tip is not touching anything.
Try setting it on "stove mode" with the feeder at 3, stove temp at 5 and the convection fan on high. Experiment with this and if it looks like you are still struggling to get heat you can tune up the feed and stove temp, obviously at the expense of more pellets. Do you have a drafty house? What brand of pellets are you using? If you have a ceiling fan, set it on reverse and on low to med (depending on your comfort). Try to close doors to rooms not being used.
I too own an XXV, and at the setting I just noted above I'm able to keep the house at 71 when it's 15 out and I'm burning slightly over a bag a day (my stove is my only source of heat).

Best of luck

The probe is just laying on the floor. (do I have to take the black plastic off the end?) I also have a ceiling fan directly in front of the stove on high pushing air down. I should put it on reverse? My house is somewhat drafty, it is a 1950's home that has been remodeled, new windows, new drywall, wood floors etc. I am unsure of the pellet type I will let you know, will call my wife and ask. Do I have to mess with the draft screw hole at all?

Thanks for the help, I will try and use "stove mode" and not room temp mode and see what happens.

Is the rocker switch labeled "high/low" at the back of the control door opening set to high?
I have a XXV in a 700 sf drafty office and I burn 1.5 - 2 bags/day when it's cold.
Get the temp sensor off of the floor and mount it properly to a wall about 2-3 foot up or to
the back of the stove. Also, leave the shrink wrap (black plastic) at the end of the temp probe alone.

Even if the probe is laying on the floor the stove should be cranking out the heat trying to bring the room up to temp. On the control panel make sure the (toggle) switch is set to (auto) and not manual when in room temp mode. What does the flame look like when burning and is it pouring hot air out the front of the stove? We have a ceiling fan also and is reversed to pull the heat up and disperse throughout the room, but every house is different, we have vaulted ceilings. All I know is when my XXV is calling for high heat, that thing will roast us out of the house. I run my stove on room temp.

This stove should melt your eyeballs if you stand too close.
As mentioned, get the probe up off the floor and away from the stove. Do not remove the tip.
Turn that ceiling fan down to low and flip the rocker switch on the stove to high.

EDIT: If you do plan to use the ceiling fan, run it counter clockwise in the winter

Is hot air blowing out the front into the room?

Hot air blows out the front, the flame dances pretty high I would say 6-8inches tall. I will try looking for the rocker switch and see if that isn't already on high. I will also try that stove mode idea and see what happens.

I wish I could say it heats me out of the house but right now looks like I will test it tomorrow (tues) when I am home and let you all know what happens.

place it in stove mode and crank it up all the way. you shouldn't be able to keep your hands in front of the air vents after it heats up. If this doesn't heat your house, make sure your windows are shut :)

where exactly is this "rocker switch" behind the control panel?

Also I called my wife and she said the bag of pellets say "Pro Pellets" the stove came with a ton so that is what I am using, the seller said they were 1% ash.

Will let you guys know outcome tomorrow. Away at work for 20 hours..

Thank you!

I have a XXV with the opposite problem, too much heat. I brought an icy bag of pellets inside and accidentally set the bag on the end of the probe and it damn near cooked us out of the house. I cant get mine to stay at temp though, its either 75 or nothing, even with the feed on 3-4 and the temp on 67. Love the stove though, a lot nicer than the Lopi and much easier to clean. We are burning 2 bags a day, which seems high for what we need, it wont tweak down to an even 70 degrees. And it seems noisy with the fan on high, like a big box fan.

The stove fan high low switch is on the inside of the swingout control panel door area on the stove itself, a rocker switch right near the hinge of the control panel door.

The switch is on the side of the stove, when you open up the control panel look inside where it would be if closed.

I use about a bag every 12 - 14 hrs keeping the room were the stove is around 76 and living room and kitchen at 70 -72 and the bedrooms at a cold 60 - 62. my house is a single floor Ranch around 2200 sq ft and the bedrooms just don't get the heat neighbor has the same designed house without additions about 1400 sq ft and they have the same problem with a wood stove so it must be how the house is laid out.

swalz,

What settings do you have your stove at?

Also I still cannot find this "rocker switch" can anyone post a picture of it? I looked for 5 minutes last night.

The stove is keeping my main room at 69, with the stove in "stove mode" Feeder 3, and the other dial on 5.

I use a bag about 10hrs.

I wish I could get more output tho! I would love for my room to be 76 and rest 60's.

I will continue to tweek it. Maybe buy some different type of pellets if I can find them in my area.

Thank you!

Cannot get a good pic of the switch, but it is located inside the cavity that your control
panel fits into. It is a high/low switch.

Is this a new or used stove?
Have you spoke to your Dealer?
What is your exhaust consist of. Please label all the pieces.
ProPellets are probably the best pellets out there.
Turn your feed rate to 2 1/2 or 3
Is your house insulated and what is the condition of the windows and doors?

Thanks for the answers.
I would get on the phone with the Dealer and see what he can suggest. If you paid retail for this stove and installed it yourself he still should help you with this problem and be able to suggest a few things to you. I would start there and see what happens.

Eric

Yea I just called them they are going to call me back. I did pay retail, that is why I feel I did not get what I paid for, with the performance of this thing I should go back to propane :). Hopefully they can come out and see what they can do.

THanks for the help!

I will keep you all posted.

My house is not that well insulated, all windows need replaced been working on adding insulation to the attic 2/3rds of the way done and when done will be at or around R49 where there is no boards and R19 under any boards for walking on or for storage. Walls only the new additions have insulation in them and the room where the stove is has 4 big 7 foot windows and two regular big windows so the stove is in there to keep that room warm. Whole house is pretty much open to each other except for the hallway and bedrooms.

I wonder if they move the switch?

dealer thinks since it has no switch that it does not blow heat, he said you should be able to feel the heat blowing out fairly hard. I told him if you get like 2 feet away from the stove you cannot feel it anymore.

He is going to try and find a switch and come out thursday to install it.

Wish me luck!

:)

Its definatly missing the switch, and without that relay, your fan is not going, you are just getting airflow from natural convection (which is pretty powerfull when that thing is going)...

Couple things,
Bohle, I'm in W. MI also. Where do you get your pellets? I have used ProPellet, don't like them a bit. The Magic Spark that Smart Energy Solutions in Grant has are good for reasonable prices. Shoot me a PM and I'll give you the run down on pellets available around here.
I bought my stove 4 years ago from Ron Silverman, he doesn't have Harman anymore and no I have to deal with H2Oasis. A friend of mine really likes them but to date they don't return my emails or phone calls. Not very impressive.

Everyone, is this switch just an "on off" rocker? I have a P61a so it's automatic for me.
