I didn't run the furnace too much. Hope the bill don't hurt much. :)

I took us off auto delivery last year. Called for 150 gals in December. It was nice only getting a $300+ bill. That should last all yr. We use it for DHW and occasional heat when its extremely cold and I want to warm up the garage to prevent freezing pipes.

I've run it a few times now and then to warm up my roomates but hopefully they will be on their way out soon and I can close up the back of my home and turn the thermostat down to 55.

Total:
23.8 gallons
$71.38

My oil guy came on Friday and delivered 54 gallons. My last delivery was in early November for 67 Gallons, and I'm hoping to get through the year burning less than 200 gallons. My dhw is oil fired and I've run the furnace intermittantly through the fall when it was still a little to warm out to run the stove all out. Before I got my insert I regularly burned over 500 gallons per year, so I've been pretty happy with my results so far!

Got a fill up Nov 3 last year. Furnace rarely runs but I do have oil-fired DHW. Down to 3/4 today. At this rate, I'm good until summer. Woo hoo!

I filled up in August and am at 3/4 now. I run the furnace in the shoulder season.
When I was a weekend burner I used to use 600-700 gallons a year, last year I used 200.

I haven't burned a single drop this year. I used to go through about 500-600 gallons. No more Saudi imports for me thanks.

I average 220 gallons of oil a year, thats heat and hot water.
I have enough free wood stacked for this year and next year......not to shabby.

We have not burned any oil since November 2007 and before that we only burned 200 gallons since December 2005. I like to be off the oil also. Was outside working on the wood and enjoyed the workout.

Do you guys do anything to preserve oil, if there is such a product? Underground or above ground tank?
The family living in the back of my house will be out soon and I'm so ready to throw the emergency switch to off and never look back. Okay maybe fire it once a month, It's from 1972.

sorry....The furnace is from 1972.

nice

Yea my propane guy snuck a load in last week much to my dismay, 77 gallons with the last delivery in 3/09. I only use it for the clothes dryer and a tankless water heater, if only the wife wouldn't dry clothes at max timer setting for every load, bet I would save a lot with a new modern dryer that had moisture checker.

I haven't had a delivery since 2008,I believe oil will last many years unlike gasoline. I have only burned 1/4 tank since 2008 thanks to my insert burning 24/7,The only time I burn much oil is when I go away on winter vacation. I love all of the oil company brochures mailed to me trying to get me back as a customer.

mine is coming sometime this week as i am on auto delivery

before the stove and wood - used about 700 gallons a year - did some insulating / installed a new furnace and added a wood stove insert

last year used 160 gallons

shooting for less this year

darn oil is at 2.75 a gallon

there are time when i get lazy and just turn up the dial but most times I’ll light the fire

Yeah I get quite a few of them too. They make nice fire-starters. ;)

Today the oil man called to see if everything was "okay". I told him yeah, everything is great. Got rid of the oil fired hot water and it was too expensive to replace it so went electric and that wood stove is no novelty item anymore.

Not burned a drop since the last fill up either.

I've only burned a little over 20 gallons so far this year, compared to 300 at this time last year. I bought 150 gallons this past summer when oil was a little over $2/gallon...I plan on making that delivery last for a few years. My furnace used to kick on around 3am after i loaded the insert up around 10pm....It hasnt kicked on since I sprayed 35 bags of cellulose insulation in the attic last Friday...what a huge difference the insulation has made.

The oil man doesn't stop here any more. I'm burning wood pretty near 100 percent now. I keep the oil boiler working mainly for backup. Think I burned maybe a gallon or two this winter, just to test it. I've noticed occasional free ads in Craigs List for fuel oil, where households are converting to another form of heat. I may look into getting what I'd need to go pump 50-100 gallons and bring it home on those rare occasions.
