The other Cape..
Just called to see when my next delivery would be and they said today! (still on automatic)

Boy are they going to be surprised. I asked what my reading is with them and he said 1/4 tank..

Wait and see when he puts in at 3/4 of a tank! Priceless

Make sure he doesn't overflow the tank. That can be a problem when he sticks his hose in a nearly full tank.

That happened to a friend of mine, they dumped 150-175 gal into a tank with a hole 1/4 of the way up. The oil co. was the one who discovered the hole during maintenance and instead of stopping delivery they ordered a delivery!

Needless to say they payed for a new tank install and everything else the oil touched!

This is very true, I'm in the oil spill business and this kind of thing happens all the time. Do yourself a favor and get taken off automatic delivery ASAP.

Earlier in the year the oil truck showed up at my house to fill us up. Apparently we were still on automatic delivery from last year. Luckily my wife was home and caught them before they started filling the tank. I'm guessing that they would have been surprised had they tried to fill it!

my dealer says the oil comes out so fast that you can have a mess on the floor beefore he can turn the pump off

They stop when there is a whistle on the nozzle. How else u think they would know how to stop filling up?

I will call and give them a heads up though.

yea, but just remember you are on "call" delivery, and give the oilman time to get there.....in other words, when you forget to check your level and run out, dont blame the oil man when he cant get there "right now"!

When I put in the pellet stove, I stopped by my oil dealers place of business and asked to be taken off of automatic delivery. They then placed me on a a call first delivery. The call the house and ask me to call them back with the reading on the tank gauge. When I feel that it's time for a delivery, I can tell them to stop by and delivery what the tank will hold. Took my first delivery since last February just before New's Years day. Only got it then because I was going to be away for two weeks and didn't want the bride to have to deal with the pellet stove.

Those whistles don't always work. But if the tank is installed right, it is suppose to blow out the vent pipe, not all over the basement.

The really big down side to them over filling a tank is the clean up an smell that lasts forever.

60 gallons per minute fast is the average on delivery trucks. You can have a big mess quicker than you can put out your smoke and hang up the cell phone. And don't trust the oil
to all blow out the vent, those cheap plastic tank gauges don't hold the oil back very well, and if you have an old installation with a vent smaller than the fill you can have a tank rupture if the hose operator isn't paying attention.

that is when you go out and buy 10 gal or so of diesel, put it in your tank, and call him in the morning.

So much for oil......
Last year I did not use a drop of propane except for the clothes dryer; and there is
only the wife and I. The propane company called last year, and wanted to downsize
my tank. Told them that I pay $10.00 rental for tank according to contract, and what
did they have to offer. Never heard from them again. Am on call, had 80% last year
which is a fill up, and now down to 75%.
Wife is doing too many clothes, will have to get her to hang the clothes out, so what if they
freeze!!

i bought my house last yr, it was redone over top to bottom, well last spring i wanted to top off when it was $1.69 gal, so all i got was a 3/4 tank, found out the new pipes they used both fill and vent are 2", they used a fill alarm for a larger tank like 330 gal, I am now at 5/8 full, not bad since fall using 1/8 of a tank.
