Has anyone who owns a a Harman Accentra pellet insert experienced a squeaking noise when the auger is feeding pellets? I'm thinking that there maybe a lot of fines in the feeder chamber and it may be causing some binding but before I pulled the stove out I just wanted to see if anyone has experienced this issue. It was thoroughly cleaned in Sept 09

Thanks in advance

John

Moving to the Pellet zone, where there are hopefully better experts to help...

Centurion,

Yea twice this year and within a few hours I was making a call to the service guy for a new auger motor/gearbox. In my case both failues were from the gearbox.

Nothing in the feeder tube, Motor tries to turn, just a gearbox failure.

Installed my insert first wekend in November and I had a failure 3 weeks in and just this last week.

PS I'm from the Albany area too.

You may have carbon build up around the end of the auger tube. Auger may be binding up a little as pellets pass through. Try chipping out with a flat blade screwdriver. i had the same problem and it worked for me.

Shut is down clean the end of the auger. Pull stove out (not all the way) and vacuum out the fines areain rear. If you have the ability try to also blow air into the fines area it also helps to loosen up any fines in the rear fines box. Let us know how you make out.

Once a week I got a build up of carbon at the mouth of the auger/feed tube that would clunk and or squeal. Since I plugged the 5 holes just in front of the mouth there is no carbon build up and no noises

I plugged my 5 holes up as well and have not had any build up. I called a dealer to get a new burn pot without the 5 holes at the bottom and he said that he has never seen one like that. He acted very surprised and said that he had never heard of any failures related to the fire being too close to the burn pot. Anyway, I have found another dealer that will sell me the new pot without the holes at the bottom. I am confident that this will solve my problem with the sporadic squeaking.

What dealer did you get the new burn pot ?????
My unit seems to be making the same noise you are talking about.

I wanted to thank everyone for their advice and information. The Harman service tech came by yesterday and checked out the stove. He pulled the stove out (of course by this time the squealing had stopped after 3 straight days of noise) and gave it a good cleaning, perhaps just shy of a year end one.
We decided it could have been a little carbon build up. He assured and showed me just how aggressive he could be in cleaning without doing harm. However, in the process of all of this he decided he is going to replace the burn pot; ( it's the original one that has since been discontinued and changed) and also replace the auger. He sees some wear and feels it will help. We're very pleased, learned a little more and of course it's been burning perfectly since.

Thanks again.......John

Glad the issue is resolved! Also good to hear a Harman Dealer backing the product! We don't hear that often on the forum.

most likely "squeeky-wheel" syndrome.....happy folks rarely say much, but unhappy ones make alot of noise......I like to think the extreme majority are "happy folks", so you dont see it here! :)
