Yup, it's out a whack...

Should be setting just below the little hash mark at the bottom of the inactive zone.

Hope your right, I move the needle. Means the cat will be in the Active zone for a lot longer times. The temp is now way up in the active zone.

Get a new thermometer from Condar that has numbers on it.

Can't it get out of calibration just as easily as the "Inactive/Active" BK one ?

My reading of the manual suggests it should be AT the little hash mark, but whatever ...

Of course, you can also get a feel for whether the cat is active by noting the clarity of the stack effluent.
This isn't foolproof: I see a fair amount of smoke after I've first closed the bypass, even when the
thermometer is at 12o'clock or higher (on the BK thermometer).

Looking at your picture above when the needle gets to about 1 O'clock the cat should have a dull glow to it. I frequently see the needle on mine pointing to the m in Columbus, then the cat is really glowing.

Yours goes almost all the way around? Mine never gets past the middle of the word active, the cats always glowing bright red though and its throwing some serious heat. I know when it was first in the needle would get stuck at about the 11 oclock position, it wasnt seated properly but I thought I fixed that. Maybe my thermo needs recalibrating

BTW, heres mine when first installed, it looked so clean

LTB your off the scale, can you pull it out and let it cool to room temp and see where your pointer is at. Might as well give the probe a clean. I bet your cool temp pointer is set to high.....I e-mailed Chris at BK to get the word on the temp deal.

Just cleaned it last week... and checked the settings when cold. Needle was just below the hash mark on the left but still within the white line.

When the needle was all the way around, the top of the stove near the thermometer was 765 °F.

Im with learnin on this one my pointer will sometimes get past the end of the active portion of the dial down in the Columbus zone he... he...
