What would a chimney sweep that you/we/me couldn't do ourselves?

I'll be sweeping mine myself for the first time tomorrow. To me its too simple not to do, but this is coming from a guy who did his entire install by himself-everyone has different comfort levels. I've had a few different jobs that required me to work on ladders, roofs, etc...and I hunt from treestand so working off the ground is no big deal for me.

I'd like to do this myself. I have a lot of experience being high on ladders due to a background in theater lighting. I can climb a skinny, flexing ladder 30 feet or so one handed with a 30 pound theater light over my shoulder. BUT, I have a metal roof and the metal chimney sticks up maybe seven or eight feet above the roof. So, I'll need another ladder to remove the cap and do the sweep. My biggest question is... will this metal chimney handle having a me on a ladder leaning up against it?
I do have a "Little Giant" ladder that I can set with one side angled either up or down the roof and the other side running straight up parallel with the chimney.
OR.. I might just get me one of those Sooteaters and do it from the bottom up.

Well........ We had a sweep out here this week. What did he do that I would not have done? He looked down our furnace chimney and said the tile were failing BUT he could fix that problem to the tune of $3,100+.

Yeah, right. :ahhh:
