Looking at buying a 4 year old VC Winterwarm small insert to replace my pellet stove, looking for opions good or bad. Asking price is $700

Welcome to the forum Just a couple things, i installed a winterwarm last year. It's been a very nice burner so far. It took a little while to get it to burn right but its been heating pretty darn good. Just a couple issues i have with it is that it's so dang small. You really can't get good overnight burns because of the limit of splits it takes. I really don't think i would pay seven hundred for that used unit. I got mine at the right price...free. Like begreen stated look into new with the tax credits.

Thanks for the replies, looked at buying new and they are asking $2500 for the Winterwarm with the surround, does that seem high for such a small insert?

The small winterwarm is a good unit. Couple thing to pay attention to though.
1. It must be intalled with a full liner, it can be a little draft sensitive but with the liner it will perform great
2. It is a small stove, it's able to heat about 1000 sq ft max. So if your space is greater then that you may want to consider a larger unit.
3. Burn time, again this is NOT a big stove so you can expect 6 hours on well seasoned hard wood. You may be able to pinch out a little more then that but expect 6 hrs
4. Its a catalytic unit so if your buying used you'll want to make sure it's in good shape. Life of the cat should be around 18 to 24 cords of wood
