Hi all,

On the Quadrafire Castile pellet stoves, should the exhaust pipe be loose? I can wiggle mine around a little, maybe a quarter inch in all directions. Is this normal?

Thanks and have a great night.

If your referring to the exhaust pipe that comes out from inside the stove, as far as I know, it should be rock solid.

Yep, that the pipe I'm talking about. Macman, do you have a Castile?
No, but all pellet stoves are pretty much designed the same. That pipe is probably attached to the combustion blower housing with 4 screws/bolts going through a square flange, and has some gasket sealer between the flange, (or something similar to this) right?

1/4" of play sounds like a lot, unless it's just the metal bending slightly.

I'm not sure. The round pipe is welded to what looks like square tubing. Then it goes behind some metal panels. Maybe I'll try tearing into it tomorrow before I seal on the adapter vent piece and fire it up.

There are two spring clips that hold the exhaust pipe to the inner exhaust fan assembly. I would bet one or both of those clips are loose. Remove the panel on the left side of the stove end you will see where the exhaust pipe connects.

I thought that was going to be the case too. But its not. I think it is that way for the Castile insert, but not the pellet stove. Anyways, for anyones info.... the exhaust pipe is welded to a piece of square tubing. The exhaust pipe is horizontal and the square tubing does a 45-degree downward and heads towards the exhaust blower housing. the exhaust blower housing is made of sheet metal and it has a square sleeve that slides into the 45-degree'd square tubing. It is both RTV'ed and also has four screws that hold it together.

For me, the RTV looked to be in pretty good shape, so I just tightened the two screws I could get at and I'll see if she leaks later. To do it properly, you would want to get a gasket that fits between the exhaust blower housing and the mounting surface. You will need this as to get at the other screws and to properly RTV the joint, you need to take everything apart. Hope I don't have to.

How hard is it to get parts for these stoves? I sent Quadrafire an email and they sent back a generic BS email that said to work with my nearest dealer. Well, I'm in northern MT right near the Canadian border. Nearest dealer is 2-hours away. They also reccomended I have them service my unit once a year. I don't think they would come here. Frustrating....

Not hard to get parts, from a dealer.
