Plowing the stacks

I thought this should go in the wood shed, 'cause it's about getting prepped to stack wood.
Got out last night and plowed back at the stacks in the field. Got in just after dark, and was feeling pretty good about getting that done. I thought to myself, "self, now you can split that cord you bucked up over the weekend and get it stacked since you can now get the tractor and trailer to the stacks".
Yeah, that was last night. Much to my surprise and dismay, there was a bunch of snow on the ground this morning when I awoke and didn't slow down until about 2 this afternoon. Weatherguessers told me snow would be light and no accumulation. They evidently don't guess the weather where I live very well.
Needless to say, no wood was split, let alone stacked, today. I did, however, have a lot of fun on the tractor. Too bad that won't burn in the stove. The fun, not the tractor.
Yeah, I know, not enough snow to keep me from stacking. BUUUUT, plowing is more fun.

PapaDave, plowing is fun "the first time" after that it's "work" IMHO.
Some days I have plans, & at the end of the day I didn't get any of the planned things done, yet I'm tired & wondering why.
That's why I take pictures, so I can remember.
Sure pretty stacks of wood.

Not really windy, we got a dump of snow early this winter just like last winter. Not much since, but we've had some rain not too long after that, and lost some branches. The snow must've been washed off. :lol:
The plowing started turning into work after I was out there for about an hour. I did the driveway and path to the back, and then went to the back for the stacks.
I plan to do things all the time, and sometimes that works. Gotta' go with the flow.
That view of the stacks is deceptive. Here's a pic from the other end. Those empty spots are where the next batch of splits is going.

Got another 2/3 cord bucked up this afternoon. Plan to do the same tomorrow, and then start splitting/stacking to fill those empty spaces. I can slow down a little after that and concentrate on other projects. I'll get back after the wood again in the spring and all summer........just whittle away at it.
If/when I get the shed put up, it will take almost all of these 2 rows to fill it. I'll do one/yr. to start though. That gives the stuff in these rows time to DRY.
Funny how I had NO IDEA 3 1/2 years ago that I would be doing all this when we bought this place. :coolsmile:

I tell ya, those like quads who do the cutting in the woods have a LOT of fortitude. That's a lot more work than what I'm doing, especially in the snow. I only mention quads due to his most welcome documenting of his seemingly daily wood cutting exploits.

When we go out we are seeing some bare ground in some of the fields but back here in the woods we still have snow; just not as deep as it was. Yesterday I found some more ground that was not frozen. After that first good snow we got ( almost a ft.), we've only gotten a little bit here and there. Last year seemed like it snowed almost every day. I plowed A LOT last year. Probably why the plow handle broke. :cheese:
I'm starting to see some patches with no snow too.
Checked the noaa site, and they're predicting higher than normal temps for the next couple months. Wait and see.

Thank you! I don't see it as work at all, some people watch TV, I cut firewood. I was a little short of time today, but this afternoon I did manage to cut, split, haul, and stack a couple quick loads. Didn't take one picture, if you can believe that!

Well,...that ain't right.
I didn't either. I like to document things too, save 'em on an external drive, then go back after a while to see how far things have progressed. Did it when I built the pole barn, did it when the Woodmizer guy and I slabbed up a bunch of white, and red pine.
I sometimes take pics of jobsites too.
I hear 'ya on the short of time thing. Spent the day Monday doing stuff around the house, then went out to the shop to get something..........didn't make it to the shop. Sidetracked to the tractor, and that's what started this thread. ALWAYS something else to do.

Oh, wait a minute. Took a couple pics at my sis-in-laws on Saturday. Straight back in this pic is about 8 acres of oak and maple.
LOTS of down stuff and previous owner has a crapload of trees marked to take down for thinning.
There's also 80 acres of state land abutting her property on one side. Need to find out if it's cool to cut over there. Her stuff will keep us busy for QUITE a while, though. Some will be mine, I hope.

Got this one in 2007. It's got a lot of grunt, but no traction with turf tires. Had to put chains on to plow. Lack of chains worked ok as long as we didn't get more than about an inch of snow. :roll:
Any idea where to get some of those ag tires for it? TSC carry 'em? Guess I could ask them.
