After lurking here for about a month, I am finally posting. :)

We purchased a Mt Vernon AE insert at the end of December in order to replace the propane fireplace. After much bouncing back and forth I finally settled on doing making a flush hearth that is (pretty much) even with the hardwood floor. Making that first cut hurt in more ways than one! (I am recovering from ACL reconstruction surgery so it makes it a bit more difficult).

The floor was cut, 1/2" Hardibacker 500 was laid down, and 18"x18" Italian tile was laid down along with bullnose trim (as that is what what was available). A 1" wood trim piece has to go around the hearth as well as there are a few gaps and 1 nice screw up, but that is for this weekend. They are coming to install the stove tomorrow and we just finished the grouting around 5PM tonight. Talk about cutting it close!

A friend laid down the tile as well as most of the grout work due to my inability to do any kneeling at the moment.

Attached is the picture of the hearth, let me know what you think. And yes, I am aware it is slightly off center. :) (The rest of the tile work on the surround will be done in the summer).

Thanks,

Steve

Wow you guys are old.

I was watching 'wargames' the other day, and Ally Sheedy asked how old the 1 programmer was when he died. Matthew Broderick said '41'. She says 'Wow! That's OLD!' - That made me laugh.

I resemble that remark !!!!!! :cheese:

nailhead: That's a great looking setup: enjoy

Nailhead, that stove and hearth look fabulous! Thanks for the pic, and enjoy the heat!!

Oh, and don't forget to save all your receipts for your Tax credit. Hearth, pipe, stove, and any install costs can be deducted.

Thanks for the accolades all! House is nice and toasty now (almost too toasty), and the smoke from the paint has finally cleared out. Phew!

I think I reached the $1500 tax credit already. :) Came out to just under 5K installed. That was AFTER the $500 cash back from Quadrafire, and a free ton of O'Malleys pellets. I'll post a price breakdown later.

Damm, I didn't even think of taking that off, well I'll have to figure out if I could add all this in this year.

Thanks for the tip
