Multiple days now of mid 50's temps here in our part of Oregon with little to no rain. I don't even run the Homestead during the day, so then have to fire it up late afternoon in order to get the soapstone warmed up for the evening. What kind of woodburning is that! I was going to measure my wood consumption this winter and had two cords in the garage. Still have almost half that - mostly the oak I was saving for the really cold weather. I've even turned on the oil furnace a few times just to take the chill off but have only used about 6 gallon of oil so far this month. The sun is shining thru the windows at 3:30 in the afternoon and the inside temp is 72. I'm not sure I can take much more of this. Where is winter?

I figured your area would be getting pounded by rain like the rest of the West Coast.

Somebody please throw a frozen florida grapefruit at the man in Oregon.

I'm just happy to be back to seasonal averages. I'll take a high of 39 over 19 any day.

You and me brother. You and me.

Of course we have freezing rain falling right now and snow coming tomorrow.

Winter is right here in Flagstaff, Arizona. Since Tuesday we've had over 30" of snow and still have another 24"+ possible over the next two days. Must say the Oslo is keeping us a toasty 75 °F.

It'll be back. There could be a lot of it yet.

Snowbowl must be loving the amount of snow they have gotten.

After 2 days of no fires, it's time to load up the quad. This is the first time in months that I've had to start a fire from scratch.

In north Alabama, last 3 weeks have been lows in teens/20s and highs in 30s. Today, it went up to 62 and a tornado touched down near downtown Huntsville. A tornado in January????? Weather guessers say El Nino related.

El Nino. we're not completely without rain - but I could have mowed the lawn today. Go figure!

Hey, I'm just the messenger

I have a dozen Pine Snakes in the garage that started coming out of hibernation today. Me I'm torn, I'm liking bringing in more wood than I'm burning but my heart really wants to burn!

Weirdly warm here, bcnu. Very few fires in the old Lopi. Tried one today, but too warm to draft well. Don't fret though. We ALWAYS get a second cold spell either late Jan. or early Feb. Then 3 months of rain and 55*.

Come to Iowa. We'll provide as much winter as you want. Snow. Rain. Ice. Wind. The full monte. And we're not even into February....

It's here, -9* in Saranac Lake this morning. Plenty of cold temps up this way, but not a whole lot of snow

50s and even 60s around here, with a lot of rain. My yard is a swamp right now, which I find most irritating. However, given the droughts we had in 07 and 08, I suppose I should STFU and enjoy the rains while we can get them. Winter's not done, but I can't say that I miss trying to get the stove to keep up with low teens.

I know, we've been waiting to test our new insulation for about a week now. I miss Maine winters sometimes... A nice -20 blizzard with 50 mph winds would do the trick nicely I think. The livestock may disagree though.

According to accuweather's predictions, the midwest to the east coast should be in for a very cold February. Storm tracks are expected to be along the southern U.S. and then turning up the east coast.

We are forecasted to get to 40 degrees on Sunday with rain....and that is to be followed by more "normal" temperatures and snow showers. No thawing expected after Monday. So, with the rain, I do hope all the snow melts (there isn't much left) or it will be solid ice and difficult for animals and winter wheat.

Got that weather yesterday, tornado touched down south of Tallahassee and rainfall totals were between 3"-6"
72 and sunny today

If this trend continues, it will be the warmest January on record for Washington.
