When you clean your stove? I have been using a mini Maglite but that can be a pain when you have to use both hands. So I thought I would just ask what you guys use and I might get some ideas. I was thinking about picking up a headlamp but I don't know if I'm sold on that and how well it would work. So let's hear it guys! What do you use? Thanks!

Harware store type clamp lamp. Clamp to magnet. Magnet on stove. Eureka.

have been using a flashlight as well, but I just got one of those headlamps didnt even think to use it there

What do you need a light for?

After cleaning it a few times you should be able to do it in the dark blindfolded.

LOL, no kidding! I feel like I could do it blindfolded for all the times I have cleaned it this year!

Bigjim13 I started using a headlamp that I had laying around. While it might seem like overkill it allows me to have my hands free especially when cleaning out the burn pot on my Castile while using an inspection mirror.

5 years with the stove I don't need a light nowadays but
back when I did need one I'd just clean it during
the day and pop up the shade on the picture window
in living room.

LED head lamp x2! Things are sweet, great for cat fishing too.

metal drop light with a clamp. Clamp it to the door (carefull of the gasket) so that I can move it to where I need the light and even just plop it into the firebox, lights up the whole thing. Clean half at a time, move it and clean the other half. Not sure if the P61 and the P68 share the same box though. Plus even with a 75 watt bulb the metal does not get hot.

Fish cam works good for the vent!

Dammit! Now you tell me....
The past two years all I've been using is a "bud-light". I couldn't see any better with one, so I tried another. And another. And so on. It hasn't done a damn thing except give me a head ache!

Actually... Just the overhead light in the living room provides enough light to see. I'm essentially brushing/vacuuming every square inch of the inside anyway so I do it kind of methodically.

There you have it folks the definitive answer to all work area lighting questions. The OP can mark this thread problem solved and go get a Bud Light.

I don't use any extra light when cleaning usually, just the overhead lights in the room.

If you want to continue to use the mini mag and have both hands, you can get one of these-

LED headlight as well (just did my stove today).

Goes well with the NIOSH n95 disposable mask and disposable gloves - I look like a total dork.

Wow burn1 I like that. Being a maintenance guy in a big facility I always have a leatherman and a flashlight. Always had a 2 AA maglight, but recently went with a streamlight 2 AA LED. Great light. When using the light I always have the end covered with electrical tape. This way I always have a piece to hold something, tape a sign, retape a splice and keep it comfortable on my teeth when I am working in a dark place and need both hands to see. I also use this method when cleaning the stove. Maybe I'll look into one of those things.
