Well I did it. Just sent payment for one of the Econoburn boilers listed on E-Bay. It's the EBW-150 coming from Aqua-Therm in Minnesota all the way to Nova Scotia. The price was just too good to resist. It took about a week of research, phone calls and e-mails to set up the deal and make the shipping arrangements. I have been dealing with Kelly Rooney at Aqua Therm who has been very helpful. She set up the shipping and located a brokerage firm to handle the paperwork at the border.I expect it should arrive sometime next week and will keep you all posted.I have to pick the boiler up in Dartmouth, about 120 kms away, but the truck couldn't get up my driveway anyways so I'll handle that.
Soooo, come spring once we have shut down the boilers in the shed,(this is a retrofit),I'll be picking some brains on this forum no doubt. Stay tuned!

Congratulations! I remember when my Tarm arrived... From what I hear I think you will be very pleased with the Econoburn and I can't blame you for getting it now after seeing those prices! Keep us posted... pictures would be great too!

Nice units, great company to deal with. Get your wood cut, split, and drying asap. Awesome deal for those looking to buy. Good luck with the install!!

Yup,pictures for sure and I should have some wood left over from this winter's batch to get me started next fall. I don't imagine I'll be set up for water storage by then but we shall see.Kind of like a second Christmas.

You will be one of the people that WON'T be saying, you know, awhile back I could have got an Econoburn for!!, Randy

In the mean time I should go back and read the posts on setting one of these up.Thanks for the encouragement.A couple of things I like about the Econoburn are: 1)Because it is made in the US there will be no duty importing it into Canada.I checked with the Canadian Border Service.Thank NAFTA and Free Trade I guess. and 2) It has the W/H Certification for Canada and the US. Important if my home insurance company checks and also for Code compliance.

It's also very robust in design and construction.

Trevor,at 1550 lbs. it certainly isn't light. Supposed to have been shipped yesterday. It may show up by Friday. It will be delivered to Dartmouth which is an hour or so away.I talked with a buddy of mine with a truck about picking it up but we decided having it shipped here would be best. I've contacted a local courier company that has a truck with a lift gate about delivery to my door. I ain't getting any younger and it would be a real drag to drop it trying to off load it from my friend's truck.

In terms of setting it up, the Econoburn is a bit different than some of the Euroboilers in that it doesn't have (or need) the temperature blending valve for the minimum return temp. protection. That's achieved by switching to a pump (which I believe is included with the unit) that only circulates water through a nearby loop until the boiler comes up to a minimum temperature just over 150, at which point it turns off that 'near' pump and turns on whatever pump or pumps feed the heating loads and/ or storage.

If you don't have the manual yet, PM me with an e-mail address for you, and I can send it to you (my electronic copy is about 15 months old, so the new manual may or may not be updated- but this'd be a start) so that you can start looking at their diagrams. And "ask away" with questions.

Good investment---shipped to your home. They are a bear---weighty and top heavy. Mine was delivered to my home --medium duty truck with a boom lift on the rear.
Did the pipe thing to roll it near my install area. My John Deere compact couldn't lift it. Jacked it up on to blocks; and I'll say it again---they are top heavy.

I borrowed a friend's large New Holland tractor with loader to lower mine down the cellar bulkhead opening-- it'd be possible to do it other ways, but it is a lot of mass to move if you're working in limited space. A pallet jack got it to the basic location in the cellar, and then a come-along hooked to the feet of the unit let me do the final slide to its precise location.

Great to see you made the purchase Earl. I'm sure you'll be very pleased . I just can't understand how you can leave her until spring to install. If you need anything just give me a shout . We will even be in the area sometime around spring.

Hey Warren,I couldn't pass up the deal. The boiler is due in Dartmouth in 7 days.I don't fancy doing an install during the heating season in case I run into problems.Definitely give us a call if you make it over this way.
