I know the directions say to always shut off the stove before opening the hopper to refill it. But if you open the hopper with the stove running for 15-20 seconds will it have any affect on the stove?

I've never shut off my enviro to fill it.

My St Croix has a switch that disables the auger while you have the hopper lid open. Unless I forgot to shut the lid after filling it, there really isn't much effect.

not sure about the Timber Ridge / Englander Stoves...Kinsman is the expert, but the Quad Castile can be fueled anytime

I add pellets to my Englander all the time while it is running, no problems. It takes me about 20-25 secs.

I often fill the hopper on out Lopi Leyden while it is running.

I pour from a coal/pellet hod and have no problems whatsoever.

It just won't feed any pellets. As long as you can get them in before the fire dies down, you should be good to go. If I'm filling the hopper completely, I put the candle holder I have on the stove on the switch to hold it down.

I fuel both of mine with them running. It just loses vacuum for a short time which stops the feed cycle. 15 seconds and you lose maybe two cycles. No big deal.

........I never shut my stove down...but you do have to watch any plastic or synthetic clothes etc. doesn't touch the hot door/glass or you might have a mess to deal with...... cc ;-)

I do it all the time no problem . I even open the front door and give the glass a quick wipe .I don't recommend that though as you get smoke smell pretty quickly .
We don't have a hopper lid switch that would shut it down . I think the big concern if you leave it open to long would be a hopper fire .

My stove doesnt have a hopper lid switch like a englander does, otherwise fill away!, even fill my kersosene heater running.

I own a Harman XXV and I fill the hopper with the stove running. I have noticed that if I take too long, the fire does start to diminish but it comes back to life once the hopper lid is closed.

That happened to me last night. I came home from work and the wife had put pellets in the hopper but touched the plastic bag to the front door/glass. Boy does that make a stink. I scraped off what I could and the smell went away after awhile.

I don't shut down to refill, only to clean. I've got the lid switch, so I have to either be really fast, or push the switch to let some pellets feed or the stove will die on me if I take too long. No smoke smell when the lid is open, so I don't worry.

The first burn of the seasonis probably the only time I fill it when it is shut off. unless I have to do something crazy like flip it over to pull the blower motor, then I need it as light as possible.
