I was putting some wood into my Fireplace and a piece of metal fell out of it. The unit is a Heat N Glo NorthStar. It seemed to fall out from the front of the firebox just inside the opening of the doors. It seems like it fell from in front of where the fiber board and insulation sit on top of the baffles. Originally I thought it was some sort of "cap" to cap off the front of the board and the insulation but it will not sit there. There are no screws or rivets in the metal. It was simply sitting in there, unattached. The dealer has no idea what it is and the piece does not show up in the exploded view of the fireplace in the back of the manual.

Anyone else have this problem or know what this is?

P.S. - I have pictures of the metal piece but this won't accept them. I can e-mail to you if you think you have an idea.

I came across the same piece you described in a Northstar a few years ago. I recall there being an obvious place for it at the front of the upper baffle. It protected the baffle or held it in place. Seem to recall that an overload of wood could move the baffle enough to disengage this "clip." Is the piece warped at all or still straight?

"Read the annoucements section of the hearth room. It may help to get your pics ready to post in a forum. Good luck."

Can you describe the ruckus sir? I mean , the piece of metal. On my North Star there is a piece of metal that is near the width of the firebox, at the top, and it has a channel in it that is the thickness of the baffle board.
Your right, it's not in the manual's parts list (probably because they only list replacement maint. parts, that piece is not likely to require replacement)

If it's what I'm thinking, it goes up top front, clips into the baffle board and kinda holds the blanket in there too. Just a little protector.
