What's your opinions on these pellets? They are the only ones I have burned, I'm a newb. My stove is more work than fire...... I've burned a ton of each this winter. Price is no object on my next ton of pellets. Tell me all this work is simply because I'm cheap and saved 40 bucks a ton on these pellets.

I have burned 2 of the 3. Pennies and Curran. decent shoulder pellets at best. If price is no object? Look around and see what else you can find. The prices are dropping all over.

Yep, what Jay said. Those pellets are good for fall and early spring...nothing more. And Stove Chow's other name is Stove Crap.

What other brands are available in your area? What stove do you have? (put it in your signature line....then we don't have to ask everytime...Thanks).

The bag does not look like the one i have and mine states on the bag oak could there be 2 brands or just different for location mine were not bought at walmart but from a guy whom orders them buy the truck load thanks

many people call stove chow, stove crap/ i recently got 5 bags from home depot to try.have been using pro pellets which have okay heat but lots of ash and clunkers.also using turmans, okay heat but less than pro pellets, but very clean ,nice smell and very little ash.burn stove chow and temps were 20-25 degrees warmer, with very little ash and a little clunkers. thought they werent bad at all. had two friends try them and felt the same way. maybe getting better?

I bought pennington only good to heat in mild weather, I bought a ton this spring they won't heat as hot as the heaters I am using now. The heaters are softwood pine clean and really hot.

The bag i have says pennington seed inc geenfield mo is this the same company as natures heat can any one verify thanks

I've burned Penningtons and Stove Chow as well as many others in the past. Penningtons burned well in both my Quad and Harman. Stove Chow was VERY dusty and caused both my wife and I to sneeze and have allergenic type symptoms whenever the stove was filled from the composition of the dust. Marth, Green Team, Somersets, and Dry Creek - all which were available locally throughout Syracuse and Onondaga county. There were a couple of others that I have burned in the past which have caused my Quad to produce hard, solid, fused clinker in the burn pot, but at the moment I can't recall them (the Harman doesn't do this as it pushes the ash out of its burn chamber although there was one brand that did build so much ash that it would backfeed and extinguish the fire in the fire pot).

You should try several other brands.

I'd put Oakies, Barefoot, and Granules LG on the list of pellets to try. These are all classified as super premium pellets. The first and third on the list are softwood and from Canada, the second one is hardwood and is from Pennsylvania.

You are looking for a low ash or light ash, low chloride pellet.

I mention light ash because if it is light it is easy for your stove to expel the ash from the burn pot. All ash, like all pellets is not the same.

You should get some bags of a few different brand and try them out. I am currently burning Pennington's (VA mill 8/09 mfg date) and they burn very well for me. They do how ever generate more ash than the pellets I burned last year (Turmans). But at the time of purchase, I could not justify the price difference. $223 ton for Penn, $285 ton Turman. I have no regrets on my decision, and in the same circumstance would do it again.
