The big winter storm is here in oklahoma, and it's taken down power lines already. 10,000 without power and it's still going.

The old dead oak I cut down and split and stacked on the porch is burning like magic! I got loads of good heavy splits from it and it's burning great!

Better get another cold beer in the hand and slip into the big chair!

Cheers!

Where are you located? Bixby, Ok here.

Hey Pict; The worst tradgedy of global warming is not being able to hunker down beside a hot stove to wait out a storm!

Just saw it on the news. Snow and ice, very bad combination. Be careful.

28 degrees and freezing rain in NW Arkansas. Hoping it turns to snow soon.. otherwise, it's gonna be rough tomorrow.

Yep. Just saw what is happening to you guys and the forecast for when it gets here Saturday. Not looking forward to it. Or the cold that arrives from the frozen North here tonight. The cold from the North is going to collide with the moisture from your storm. Here.

Sounds nasty all around. And dangerous. Y'all stay safe! Rick

We still have power here (NE OKC) and staying nice and warm with the NC-13.

We have your room ready Rick. Head for the airport in the morning and you can be here in time.

Welp after being spoiled with 40's and near 60 one day last week, its now single digits before the wind chill here again. And its windy as it can be.
Got a lil snow enough to ice the roads up this morning & screw everything up. Then melted later in the day. And the temp now has been dropping since.
Keep that cold out west, don't need anymore.
Keep the moisture down south, don't need no mo of that either!!!!

Oh gosh, I'd love to join you, but I'm trying to keep up with our mild January we're having so far. Stay warm and safe, my friend. Rick

Ice storms are the worst. I'd rather get 18" of snow!

Being cold is a complete drag, but being cold and in the dark is the pits. One more reason I love our stoves and our Aladdin oil lamps. Hunker down and stay cozy.

We're watching this thing gear up and head for us now. We'll obviously know more as the day progresses, but I'm seeing reports from as mild as 1/2" of snow to as crummy as 1/2" of ice first, then an additional 4" of snow for our area. We're in an odd spot: we're high enough up on the Cumberland Plateau that our elevation often causes worse weather, but we're also far enough south that sometimes we miss stuff that's just a few miles to the north of us. I'm sticking with the "rather have snow than ice" position. Nashville isn't supposed to see any sustained weather until noon, so it's about an 8 hour wait for us here on the Plateau. I should probably stock up on Scotch before I come home tonight. Someone recommended The Glenlivet 12 year single malt to me yesterday, and I'm anxious to see if our local store carries it.

If you have never tried a good single malt I couldn't think of a better time. Two of my favorites are 15 year Balvenie and 16 year Lagavulin. Sorta depends on how much weather you have to put up with. ;-)

Thank you for the recommendations! I'll jot them down in case the store has no Glenlivet.

Now that was either a typo or you didn't wait till 5 to pop that cork. ;-)

I hate to hijack a scotch thread but I was listening to the D.C. weather guy and he said well it isn't going to be too bad but it will be south and west of D.C. Hold it! I am south and west of D.C.!

I got it on my lunch break before the snow started. Didn't want to get caught without this weekend.

If you have trouble keeping the stove going you can always use it for accelerant.

You could strip furniture with that stuff!

I have to say, this is definitely sippin' whisky. It ain't "hammer shots between beers" type stuff. :bug:

Good for you! We had a large Maple fall in a bad winter storm last winter. I cut it up and split it as fast as I could. I split it WAY larger than I normally do because I don't need it for this winter so it has all that time to season. I looking forward to see how it burns next winter. Stay warm!
