Feeling the Heat

Western, Ma.
I use propane for cooking and the clothes dryer. Pellets for heat and oil for DHW and heating the basement. I got my regularly scheduled(every 3 months) propane delivery yesterday 70 gallons.......367.00. Holy crap 5.00 gallon for propane. 3 months ago I paid 2.67gal WTF is going on???? I feel very violated.

when I set up my propane account, I had just been whacked with a $150 charge by my last dealer for "not using enough volume to justify the cost of their equipment (bottle at my house)". My current dealer increases the price as I burn less to cover the cost to them of the bottle, delivery truck, and the time it takes for the driver to come hook onto the bottle and find out I need very little gas. Right now they only come every three months, and I payed 3.80/gal last delivery. Other guys at work are paying 2. something /gal.
If I had switched to gas heat for my house they would have "given" me a 250 gal tank and since I would be using so much the price/gal. would be less.

The same thing happened to me , The more wood I burnt to save money the more the propane cost me , I got fed up with it and bought my own tank .
By owning your own equipment you can shop the market and play the market , in other words fill when its convenient for you , I Got a 500 gal tank for my back up heat and DHW I can easily make it 2 years on that . Beauty of propane it really doesn't get old like fuel oil does.

If that's all your using why have them come every three months?

100 gallon tank. I don't think there will be any value in shopping this out. I already own my own tank.

We're in a temporary rental until we close on a house next month. There was a 50% full tank here when we moved in at Thanksgiving and I bought the gas for $1.64. I called last week for a fill and they quoted me $3.57. I suggested the tank was shaped like a suppository for a reason and they could come get it after I shopped around for another supplier. They gave me a "one time" price of $2.77 and I bought the minimum. This kind of removes the argument that "we have to charge that much blah, blah, blah.

My shopping list now includes a multi-fuel stove for the "new" house as well as a propane tank for cooking only. The house has an electric heat pump and furnace and water heater. I will pay more to use those before I will put any more money into the pockets of these greedy bastages..

a guy that works with me just got his propane.got bill at 5.08 a gallon. called then thinking it was a mistake because he had paid 2.25 in november.so he checked around and others ranged from from 2.30-2.80. he called his company and told them they made a big mistake, but they said it was the right price. after telling them what the others charged they still said sorry. so he told them not to deliver again and in the spring they could come get his tanks. after about ten minutes they called back and reduced price to 2.75.they do it with propane and with oil if your not careful, always check for pricing.

I know I may be a little off topic, but not too far. I wrote letters to our state senator and on something called Blue flame (some kind of Natural Gas blog) asking why there isn't more of an effort to get the gas lines run up the residential streets so we have acceess to natural gas. Residential direct heating, cooking and water heating is supposed to be the most efficient use of gas there is. The government's stimulas money would be well spent getting the country's resident's connected to natural gas. We could get on the New Natural Gas train then. We have a big gas line running a block from my house and I can't get the local gas vendors interest at all on gettiing connected. I probably should add I live in a low income and fixed income area, but, We Vote. bjr23

My propane is $8.43 cu ft. We are billed with our monthly rent. My bill this past month was $59.01.................my neighbor's...........$300!!

Thank you little pellet stove!

gas co around here won't let you get your own tank, they all claim it is an insurance co. issue, I have been considering getting my own gas grill bottles (4 or so) and plumbing them together, I saw that Lowe's has the 100lb bottles for cheaper than 4 small bottles, I am just not sure if they would be able to keep up with my tankless hot water heater (big demand) in sub-zero temps even if I had 2 at once. I also don't know where to get the 100lb bottles filled around here, the 20lb I can walk to a gas station with and get them filled.

I forgot what really honked me off. When they gave me the lower price I asked if I would get a credit for any unused gas when me move. They said sure, after I pay a $45 fee. That's why I went with the minimum. If there's any left, I'll leave the furnace set at 68 when I move out.

The 4 bottles my be the easier way - especially on you back..

Try your local Agway/Nursery for the refills. I just had a couple of 20 pounders refilled last Wednesday for my LP salamander at my nursery. I was told that they were not allowed to fill anything over 100 lbs.
