We're closing on a "new" house soon and I left my trusty PelPro behind in the old one. Paying to heat with propane sucks!!

I went out yesterday to see what was left in the stores and I found a 6041 at Tractor Supply for $1100. I plan to use pellets (Somerset is nearby..hope to buy direct) but I like the idea of using other fuels if necessary.

Have you had any specific issues? How often do you clean? Anyone burning corn?

Thanks in advance,

Doc

Forum member "schoondog" has a 6039, so if it's the same stove (just w/o an ignitor), give him a shout by PM. From what I know talking to him, he likes the stove.

bacsibob,
As Macman says.... I like my 6039. I have burned corn with no problems. Control board allows you to play to your hearts content, although I pretty much stay with the auto controls. Mine is a manual light. I would think that the new igniter in the 6041 would make this stove very nice. Hard to beat that price. Coming up on the 6 ton mark with mine and only problem was the door lath which they sent me a new piece in a few days. Very basic, easy to work on heater. Some say noisey, mine read 55 db from 5ft. away. I haven't measured any other stoves but the one I have heard aren't alot quieter if any than maine. Go for it.

From the discussions at IBC the 6041 changed the direct drive agitator, which had gearbox problems (supposedly) because of heat, to chain drive.

I have their 5510 pellet stove; the igniter is good for about a year, easy to get to, and about $40 when it's out of warranty.

I appreciate the responses. I can't wait to fire up this puppy. With my luck, spring will be here the day after we move into the new house. Wait, spring is a good thing, right??

I also have a 6039 and burn a 50/50 or 75/25 corn/pellet mix with some oyster shell. I clean it every three days and do the 14 ft chimney every 2 weeks.Corn produces a caustic substance when burned so I dont let the ash sit for too long.It also helps to run the draft fan on high for 5 mins each day and run the Heat Range on 9 for 30 mins or so every other day to burn off the corn residue. Good luck. You have a good stove there.
