Feeling the Heat

This is my second season with the Montpelier and I have tried different things to maximise heat output! This works really well!

Lay one split along the back east west. Then lay splits resting on top of that split north south so that the ends rest on top of the front brick just behind the end irons. This will leave a gap below the splits were the air enters the fire box! When reloading push coals to the rear then reload splits in the same north south fashion! One end resting on the coals and one end resting on the front fire brick!

Just be careful It burns much hotter so adjust air control properly!

I've found the same thing with N/S splits and air flow underneath. When the heat gets cranking, do you turn up the blower fan? I've done that several times, but often I forget. I'd love it if the fan speed adjusted with the stove head, versus the simple on/off that the blower does not.

but dont you find that the back middle is almost always chunky black? that is my biggest problem. but i do understand the n/s, i find when i start with a clean firebox i can get 3 degrees more than i can the next day

i lay 2 splits north & south resting on the firebrick behind the airons and one on top east and west and that works really well for me with the air control from 1/2 to 3/4 closed.
