What do people do with wooden pallets at the end of the season?

I put a couple of pallets from last year out of sight in the back where they will rot away eventually. But I think I will have four pallets a year and I can't pile them up indefinitely. I may see if the stove dealer shop I bought them from will take the old ones back when I get next year's supply, but I'm not sure of that. Trash and garbage pickup will probably charge me if they even take them.

Why don't you put them on Kijiji as free fire wood . Or maybe the pellet dealer will take them back . I burn mine at the lake I still have a wood stove there .

I cut them up and use them for kindling for the wood boiler.

while we dont like tot ake them back, we will if asked, as long as the skids are accessable. I dont want drivers doing an easter egg hunt all over the property for skids. We have folks who come into the store and pick them up for kindling.

how bout this???

I have to restack my pellets into the basement each year so I keep
a few of the best shaped ones and give the rest away to woodburners.

When I purchase a ton of pellets from the grain elevator, I return the previous pallets as they reuse them. There are a number of pallet recycling businesses in the area as well.

I take my extra pallets to the 'town recycle center' (fancy for town dump) where they usually take them without charge because they use them to stack things on, like old TV's, Monitors, etc that they have collected and now need to ship to where ever the next stop is for this stuff.

I just put them out on the sidewalk in front of my house
and they magically disappear every time.

This is where my pallets go to retire:

I bring mine to a local conrete block manufacturer and they give me $10.00 each for the good ones.

I use mine to make a big barn fire at the beach. A little gasoline and 25 - 30 pallets...great show!!!

As long as you go back with a metal detector to retrieve all the nails.......

Thanks for the prompt replies. There are some ideas in there. :)

As for the posts by no pane and BTU, I am of two minds. They are good with Photoshop images to create those pics or they need serious help. Serious, serious help.

I would warn you to be careful in your pallet use, especially where kids can touch them. A lot of pallet mfgs coat them, or they get coated by chemical spills on a truck. You will notice if you burn them that they sometimes have a special color to the flame. They can be as hazardous as pressure treated. (I used to sell them, and we had to cut the culls up with a chainsaw, our laborers didnt love us) However, we did have guys collect the scraps ones for decking but it takes a lot to smooth out the hickory and swamp cedar.

Be the first on your block to have a pallet fence....

There are a few of those 'fences' in a town about 10 minutes from me, in a little area we call cockroach corner.
