Hi everybody, plan on putting in a cinder block chimney this spring have to have it done and know nothing about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have read on here that to insulate between the liner and blocks but with what Fiberglass insulation or something else? And what kind of liners are the best? And should there be a clean out and if so how big? Any other help or advice will be great and THANK YOU in advance.

I think if I had to build a chimney I'd build a class A insulated stainless chimney and build a chase around it to match house.

One inch air space between flue tile and block.

Your best bet is to find some instructive literature to help guide you if you're unfamiliar with masonry construction.

As far as the flue goes try to locate round tiles - the exhaust spirals smoothly upward giving you a better draft than square or rectangle tiles with the same id. In some areas they may be a challenge to locate, but you'll have much better luck at masonry supply businesses.

Use a pourable masonry insulation such as perlite or vermiculite to insulate the airspace between the liner and the blocks. That space need to be unobstructed the whole length of the flue.

Try to use a cast iron cleanout rather than sheet metal. They're manufactured to modular dimensions so you can match it to your block.

Check out the Mason Institute of America's website and their bookstore for legitimate reference material.

Again thank too those who sent replys and any more help would be great!! I am going to the city the end of the mounth to look at the options there is for rock to cover and see what kind of liners are available!!
