Just curious to know what the flame is like for other Harman XXV owners.

Our flame tends to kiss the top of the glass when it's running on a higher setting, is this normal? It seems as though the fire should stay behind the top flame guard, but mine tends to dance between both sides. I'm burning O'Malleys and I have noticed the flame tends to stay further back on a higher feed setting (~4.5). Any input would be appreciated.

Here's a shot from my web cam on our Accentra... Set on Room Temp @ 70*...

John193... I "normally" only get the flame touching the glass and curling out to the sides when I'm starting the stove and do have it on a higher setting. To maintain my house comfortably once it's up to temp, my settings are: Room temp mode, Feed rate usually in the 3.5 to 4 range with the Temperater set around 72°F and the flame is tall but remains behind that upper shield. Does your flame stay like that consistently?

Not constantly, but I have noticed where the flame hits the glass, the glass gets a little "distorted". Some heavy scrubbing seems to remove it, but I dont think that is all that normal.

I don't have the XXV, but the P43......my flame only curls out to the right when the ash builds up (builds up higher on the right for some reason) on that side.....i dont wait for it to be pushed over the edge as they say. when the flame starts to look like that i scrape the pot and flame is back to be active as can be

Sometimes when the burnpot on mine is overloaded with ash, the flame will get really high but
it rarely touches the glass. When this happens, I just give the burnpot a quick scrape and it
calms down some.

Mid season, I run it on stove temp mode, temp around 75- feed is on 3-4 depending on
which pellets I am burning.

My XXV burns on "room temp" mode, and the flame will kiss the glass with higher feed levels also. I've never had a problem with it at all. What's your intake/exhaust set up like?

Intake is from the room. My stove is a corner install and the exhaust has a 90 bend out, then a 45 the opposite direction and straight out with a 36 inch pipe (cap on the end). This was the best way to do it, otherwise I would have had to cut a stud.

My flame touches the glass as well. I run stove temp mode, typically between 4 - 51/2. Service came out to check the stove and they said it was operating correctly, but couldn't explain why the flame was leaning so far forward. I tried a couple of other brands of pellets and they seem to keep the flame further from the glass.

Does a higher feed rate (4.5) burn more fuel quicker than a lower feed rate (3.5)? Is the feed rate simply how quickly the pellets are feed into the burn pot?

I'd check all inlets/outlets to the stove: the oak, the cavity under the burnpot, the exhaust. maybe some buildup somewhere? also check seal on the glass and door.
