Down East Canada
Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on the preferred brand. Both are available in the Maritimes for about the same (outrageous) price.

Thanks!

The dealer i was talking to in Saint John yesterday doesn't sell pellets but he recommended Eastren Embers, said they are the best quality and that is what he burns. What kind of stove do you have, i am buying my first one and almost have my decision made.

I have a Harman Accentra - great stove, but non-existent customer service from the head office, in my view. My local dealer is the only thing that makes owning the stove a reasonable experience.

Well, I bought 60 bags of LGs. So far, I'm impressed. Compared to Eastern Embers, I've noticed less fines in each bag and less dust when I fill the hopper. The burn rate and heat seems about the same as Eastern Embers, or perhaps slightly better.

The local Can Tire now stocks Lignetics and Maine Wood Pellets - both US products and priced the same as EE and LGs: $5.99 per 40 lb bag.

Also, Kents has Cozy pellets on for $5.49 per bag right now. Anyone tried those?

hi fedtime. lignetics burn the hottest out all of the pellet brands available in the maritimes(halifax/dartmouth nova scotia at least) unless comfy cosy changed something they are the worst for heat so dont bother. here is my ranking from least heat to hottest:
5.comfy cosy
4.maine woods
3.eastern embers (really close between eastern and LG)
2.LG
1.lignetics( good for cold snap the hottest)
even on sale comfy not worth it. hope this helps some. i havent tried Winnipeg forest products that walmart are selling

I burned Eastern Embers last year and was pleased. This year, however, the quality is lacking: Lots of fines and super long pellets. Granted, they're burning ok in my EF3 and getting the job done, but if I had known the quality before I bought, I would have looked around for LGs or Lignetics.

Of course, if you were to buy now, your batch bay be different.

EDIT: forgot to say....Stay away from Comfy Cozy.

shane one thing i did find about eastern embers this year was my stove can burn them on high heat now. it wouldnt burn them on high heat any period of time in past seasons without building up in burn pot. i found when cleaning door glass when burning these it the hardest one to clean off.

I do seem to be getting a bit more of a build up in the pot this season than I did last year, now that you mention it. But nothing major---can burn on high no problem. I still can't burn very well on anything lower than the 12:00 position set for the feed rate, though. (which I attribute to the pellet length). That's fine, though, as I'm heating 2100 sq feet and would rarely want it lower than that.

Never any problems with the glass, though? Comes off easily for me.

Hey Gents,i didn,t enjoy the Eastern Embers at all in my Enviro, LG's are def my choice of pellet at $5.69/bag.Although these new this fall Pellet from outside Fredericton seem to run pretty decent, and price is at $5.79/Bag by the pallet. They are sold everywhere here in Woodstock Area now, mostly all the stove dealers are selling these pellets.

I have burned all of the above and I agree with this ranking....

Comfy Cosy are crap, overpriced, low heat output. Last years Lignetics from crappy tire burn hottest IMO, over 300 degrees from my heat 'gun' pointed at the Englander's vent grille, compared to about 250 from the Eastern Embers. But, the lignetics produced more soot on the door glass than the embers, and harder to clean off.

I'll still stick to my guns that LG are the superior pellet for us in NB so far.Comfy cozy suck big time. And i agree Lignetics has good heat but dirtiest pellet around.

i found the oposite on glass don eastern embers was a harder glass clean.hey gutter i will take the extra heat and extra ash. more heat per bag = less bags burned.LG is a good pellet though not slaming them. every stove does burn different as they say.

Still to high as the LG Brand are $5.00/bag in Centerville, and a Proven Quality Pellet, too early to tell for sure on the Nashwaaks,Wiebes has been one of the Best retailers i have personally delt with, and i send All my Friends there because i know they stand behind there product, and run a class act. These dealers that were only willing to sell there pellets to people who bought a stove from them last year, are about as low on the foodchain as they come in my books.(Just mine and many others opinions)

Pellets are still to high... period! I have only used a few bags this year because of the cost of pellets compared to oil. When they get the price back to a reasonable ratio to furnace oil, I will start using them again. Furnace oil at .75 a liter x 10 liters on a -10C average 24 hr period is what my two story home takes. I would use 2 bags of pellets to give me the same amount of heat.(I have my pellet stove attached to the furnace with the low speed furnace fan distributing throughout the home) This worked great until they started jacking up the price of pellets. At todays prices of 5.50 a bag that would be 11.00 for pellets compared to 7.50 for furnace oil(and that does not even include taxes0. With oil staying in the .70-.80 range, pellets would have to come back to 3.50-4.00 a bag to compare. They could do it if they wanted to but got too many sucked into just having the pellet stove and doing away with other sources of heat. BTW... electric heat cost/btu and furnace oil is just about the same at this .75 a liter cost. With more manufactures coming on stream, perhaps we will see the 4-5 dollar a bag soon.
