Well, it's been about a month since I had to replace the cracked baffle in my new Mt. Vernon AE. It looks like it's time to replace it again. This time it has a nice long crack almost top to bottom. I thought Quadrafire had this figured out.

should be warranty again. was it the updated on with the shorter droptube? maybe ask for the updated firepot too...

I assumed it was the updated baffle because the part number ended in SRV. I wasn't aware that there is an updated firepot. Where can I get more information on the difference in the baffle and firepots?

I didn't know about an updated firepot either... the ceramic firepot on mine appears to be crumbling around the top edges. I've been monitoring it and debating if it is getting near contacting the dealer. I did buy my stove in 2008, during the rush on stoves, so, I wouldn't be surprised if a few more problems crop up.
the new pot is supposed to help with ignitor life but ya never know what else they might not be telling.
I thought I read somewhere that on the new baffles the drop tube is shorter and doesn't contact the pot.
Also my firepot appears to be cast iron not ceramic?

I just finished cleaning my stove.... I looked at my burn pot and it is cast. A few beers in me and I can't tell the difference between cast and ceramic! 
Sorry for the confusion. It is coming apart though.... nothing serious at this point but a few chunks have come apart. I snapped a few photos while cleaning the stove for my records (comparison).
gblaue, that sucks. Sorry to hear about your baffle. I'm sure you'll get no resistance getting that replaced again

Bought it last June. Apparently, they stil haven't figured out or fixed the problem. :shut:
the "new" baffle is thicker than the old ones and the two center casting a the top have been removed. I believe that quad has had three different baffle designs. i have not seen any of the newest ones crack but only time will tell.

The newest baffle doesn't have the two tabs at the top, and also the imprint on the back from the diamond design is not there any more. Those were the two most obvious differences I noticed on my replacement. There is a 5 year warranty so you are covered, although it is still a PITA...
Just picked up my 2nd baffle. They gave me a new one with no problem. Enchanted Fireside's service is excellent! I'll put it in this weekend and check to see if there are any differences.
i run the heck out of my AE 24-7 and some times hotter than i should to see if the baffle would crack no chance of yet. i did notice in my last shipment of parts there was an older baffle mixed in maybe you got and older one.

When you install it, see if the drop tube coming out touches the firepot, if not, it is the new design. That was the only major change I noticed.
