A friend of mine runs a small mill. He currently runs an electric 3000 board-foot kiln. He has enormous piles of wood laying around to burn. Does anyone know of a design for a drying kiln that would run off of a downdraft gassifier or other wood boiler?

Andrew

Solar would be better, go to Woodweb.com and search there. You will find a design to follow, and also references to university studies with performance data.

shouldn't be too hard to put a Modine type heater in a shipping container. Maybe use radiators of some kind if the Modine would dry the wood too quickly. Air inlets at the bottom of one end and at the top of the other end with small fans hooked up to a differential control that operated on humidity instead of temp......always wanted to try this for firewood....

There are drying kilns on Ebay that appear to be made from shipping containers. These are quite expensive, made to just have hot water piped into them. If they will dry firewood splits they should dry boards. You can see how much design info you can dig out of them, Randy
