Feeling the Heat
Hi guys/gals,
Have a 1200i insert in it's 4th or 5th season. Tonight what I guess is the exhaust blower (located on left of stove as you face it, exhaust pipe right behind t) started making a loud whining noise. Fan is still spinning. When I turned off stove to check if anything was stuck in or around it, all was clear.
Shot some compressed air in and around the fan and restarted.
Noise is sporadic now and not nearly as loud. Everything else is normal and I did a pretty thorough cleaning yesterday.
Any ideas? Time for a tech (or a motor swap)?
John

sounds like the motor is on its way out. they start out making noise and then get worse.

Im not sure what the whining sound is but sounds like a bearing to me if its 5 years old... If you are facing the stove the Convection blower (the one that blows hot air into the room ) is on the Left side of the stove, the Combustion blower, (the blower that pulls exhaust out and up the vent) is on the Right side. Thats how it is on my Quad Castile. I havent looked at your manual but Im almost certain the room air motor is on the left.

I dont think you can oil those blowers I think they are sealed, and if the motor is squealing or whinning chances are you might have a bad bearing. My guess would be replace that motor and your good for another 5 or so years.

Thanks guys, Checked manual, definitley exhaust blower. Hope it holds up till I can replace.

If you're really certain it's the comb. blower, why not remove it (it's going to have to come out anyway), clean the motor and the vanes, and shoot some 3 in 1 oil onto the bearings anyway, even though they're probably sealed....see if that makes any difference.

Nothing to lose.

hey mac..... that's what I do if the bearings just start to talk..... I have one of those grease needles that plugs on the end of the grease gun..... if I can't get that in somewhere, I drill a tiny hole in the side (not edge) then use the needle and later plug the hold with a daub of some silicon. Bought a lot of extra time from bearings..... cc ;-)
