Was working on the new hearth yesterday morning for a bit before heading out in the big rig.

I heard something fall on the floor in the bedroom (adjacent room to where the nerw hearth is.)

My working and nailing and such had caused a picture to fall off the wall and it landed on my laptop computer.

I use the laptop for watching DVD's in the eavening in bed.

Well that bloody picture landed corner first on the laptops cover and cracked the LCD screen.

So now the laptop is all apart on the diningroom table and a good used screen is on its way from an ebay auction

Cost me $70 for a good used LCD screen.

Computer was $1800 back in 2003 and I hate to loose it.

AAAAARRRRRG just my luck.

Never have worked on a laptop before, built a lot of desktop Pc's though.

Took all of about 10 minutes to get the screen out. The new one should arrive in a day or so.

SO a word to the wise. When your installing your new stove, make sure there are not things gonna fall off the walls.

Sorry to hear about that, Snowy! I hate it when stuff like that happens! Sounds like something that would happen to me - as I have a black cloud over my head most of the time.

X2.

Murphy's Law, right? As I get a bit older, I let it slide off more easily though. I also try and leave Murphy on the side of the road instead of picking him up :)

Hang In There Snowy !!!!

I wish we could For-see problems and accidents before they happen. Because your are handy with computer this didn't cost you as much as it could have. What kind of lap top did you buy, and do you think all the screens are that easy to replace..

Seven year old laptop????!!!!! You're living on borrowed time anyway. I'm surprise the hard drive and power supplies are still functioning.

In my house I call it "THE CURSE"

The laptop is a Fujitsu Lifebook N3010

I bought it originally to Play promotional DVD's at trade shows.

The thing has never been used other than as a DVD player.

I needed a large screen but yet very portable.

Today the situation could be handled far cheaper than a spendy $$$ laptop.

Most screens come out with only a few screws, disconnect two cables and there it is.

Not rocket science for sure.

I will admit, I went online and looked up "How to replace an LCD screen in a laptop"

Found a cool little video that gave a quick tutorial on just how to do it.

I had it figured fairly close but it never hurts to ASK

ROFLMAO

Yup sure would work eh???

Well this morning I got the last of the joists in the hearth framework.

Hopefully there will be little more pounding with hammers

Once I get the decking down and the "OAK" installed, the tile (non combustible surface) in place then the project will be ready for the vent.

Hammers causing damage is why I use a power screwdriver and screws for most work inside, the power driver makes it easy and the screws just don't loosen up easily.

I built my chicken coop using screws except for the shingling on the roof. It just isn't going to come apart.

Wow, that sucks... sorry to hear about it. Hopefully the replacement screen wasn't too expensive.

Yeah most laptop screens replace really easy some places will even send you everything from the hinges up. I did many screen swaps years ago when working in a service department at a computer repair shop.

I use a screw gun for installing the joist hangers and other stuff.

The issue came when I had to install one joist that was a tad tight. Tapped it into place with a hammer and "CRASH"

Little picture in a frame that was sitting on a small wall shelf decided to get under way.

Good used screen cost me $70 from an ebay seller. Shp has good feedback so this is going to be fairly painless.

Believe me, I will not set my laptop in the place it was sitting.

I watch movies a lot in bed of an eavening and sit the laptop on a side table.
After I am done I just close the cover.

At least its not going to be prohibitively exspensive.

Biggest issue is trying to keep the house clean during construction. Sawdust gets everywhere if you dont police it up promptly.

Luckily the built in vacuum is quick and painless to suck up the crud.

Once I get the hearth sheeting in place the big mess will be over.
Once the tile is set and the MUD cured then I can sit the stove in and do the vent.

Yessssssssssssss
