I went away Thursday at 5 am. I stuffed the insert before I hit the road and turned the damper down. Came home tonight and I still had a few amber's when I stirred the coals.

As wiser(than me) voices has said before on this subject - those embers/coals can stay hot for a long time. Always good to remember when disposing of them.

Hope it's not a Home Depot bucket :eek:hh: and hope it's far away from anything burnable.

Their in a bucket now sitting. Into the garden in a few days.

Why are embers in a bucket now? If you are throwing out embers, you are wasting heat.

When's the last time you check your chimney for creosote? Sounds like ideal conditions. be safe.

Just don't sit the bucket on the snow.

Why is that? I burn it hot most of the time. Execpt for this 4 day trip it only burns down over night. I will get up there and check it out.

My first cleaning I dumped the ashes out of the metal bucket into this one.

Now that one should have gone on the snow.

Chimneys need to be checked....always and often. Especially for new wood burners. Do not put it off too long. I like to recommend monthly inspection for anyone new to burning wood. It is necessary.
