I'm getting a Jotul Rockland C550. Brand new cost is $2579, 5 yr warantee. I have an opportunity to get a 2 season old used one, no warantee for $1800. No cracks, blower works, good condition. Thats a big savings, but no warantee. Any input? I know Jotul is a good brand. Thanks!!

Take a really good look into the tax credit before you get anything used. If the used stove was $400, then it would be something I would look into. I bought a used stove and it was well worth it, but the price was much better,

The new one is the same price as the used one if you figure in the 30% tax credit and you have a new stove with warranty.

Just wait one more month and go buy a brand new stove on a spring sale and take the 30% tax credit. It is totally the way to go.

I'll echo what others have said about new vs. used considering the tax credits, and, there will certainly be some end-of-season sales coming up soon.

That being said if you're patient (and lucky!) you can get some pretty screaming deals on used stoves. In this thread, 3 or 4 people (myself included) got +/- $2,500 stoves used in excellent condition for less than $300. Then again time is money, so it all depends. I work from a home office where I can monitor Craigslist pretty easily, so it works out really well for me and I've got some amazing deals!

I'm glad I posted. Thanks for the advice. I totally didn't realize the tax credit wouldn't apply because the used stove was from a dealer. I called him and checked and he told me the tax credit wouldn't apply, so I cancelled the order and got the new one. Thanks again guys.
