hello i had usstove furnace which they bought back due to soot issues thinking about getting a stand alone pellet stove. my question is i also have a zero clearance wood burning fireplace can i run a stand alone pellet stove and vent it up through the fireplaCE? OR IS THAT A BAD IDEA

you can put the free standing in front of the fireplace and run a liner up the existing flue.
if thats what ur asking.

There are a few members here that have. Xena and Ranger come to mind. They will be here and post some pict's for you.

i should add that the chimney for the fireplace is triplewall pipe about 20ft straight up

I just gotta ask, are you gonna risk doing another USSC stove/something similar quality, or are you finally gonna man up and go buy something from a hearthshop?

well def. not other usstove product i was interested in a furnace plus the price was right and it was the end of the season but after having all the problems plus reading about others problems i will not go back to them. after reading about heating the home with a stove vs a furnace a stove could work for me also my only issue is going to be if i can run the exhaust up my existing zeroclearance chimney or not

Personally I would keep the wood fireplace as is and us it as a back up or supplemental heat source. We call it options. There are decent furnaces out there, Don't let one bad one steer you away. You will have better heat transfer with the furnace. Slave it to the existing furnace so you can use either depending on fuel costs(More options even better). Stoves will just heat a space, You will be adding fans to move the heated air.

Another choice is a Free standing. Easier to clean and fill a free standing unit. Installs in almost any exterior wall. But you still need to circulate the heated air.

I would stick with the furnace IMO.

the 6300 i had from usstove was being used as a stand alone unit heated the whole house nicely just to many issues with it need to find a decent product for a decent price

What jtakeman said. If you have some room out in front of the fireplace a freestanding can be installed that looks great and can be a little easier to service.
