Still searching for a small non cat stove,
I am looking for one wider (left to right) and shallower (front to back), I am looking for a small stove to suppliment a Masonry heater.
I need (want) Cast old style, cooktop surface, top or rear exit
"side shelf extensions" are a plus.

I saw the Intrepid II and liked it, but it is a cat, any small (15-30K) stoves like the Intrepid that are non cat ?

Thanks,
Nick

Can look at the Regency Hampton 200 series. It has warming trays as an option, is small, non cat. Not sure if it is as left/right as your looking for , but the scale seems to be the same as the Intrepid

Jotul F3CB and a Hearthstone Craftsbury might be work a look. Both non-cat.

The 200 does not have a cooktop surface, the larger 300 does, but it is to big.

Maybe not an official cook top, but it has a top of the stove that I have cooked on in the past..unless your looking for a griddle that you could put food directly on.

Have you looked at the Napoleon 1150? Also take a look at the PE Alderlea T4. The trivet top works great for all sorts of cooking needs.

How about you post some picks of what you are trying to do. This is the second thread you have on this and you are getting the same suggestions, but you seem to be looking for something different.

Thanks for the replies,
I thought I had found it in the intrepid II, till I found out it was a cat.
The suggestions given have been about the right size/configuration I am looking for, but my list of requirements includes a cooktop surface, as previously stated.
When I say cook top surface, i am describing the shiny S.S. or cast machines round or oval surface.(this is purley for looks, but when spending $20K + for a MH and wood stove set up, that is the "look" we want)
Our final design has the stove needing to be wide and shallow (intrepid), not norrow and deep (Aspen)

Yes this the 2nd thread I have started, as I have not found anything to fit the bill, was hoping a lurker that was not on last month may have a suggestion.

Thanks,
Nick

What is an MH?

masonry heater?

Ok now I have a little time to post what I am doing - the long story :)
Built my house and finished in 2005, took 2 years to design, 2 years to build.
Did not have the money to complete the hearth and chimney for the 2 proposed wood stoves when I built.
Since then I have learned about Masonry Heaters (MH)

I am doing 2 "stacked" masonry heaters, 1 in the basement, 1 in the great room.
The MH in the great room will include a small wood burning stove on the end cap of the chimney section of the MH.
The chimney will have 3 flues.

Attached is a picture of the cardboard mockup,
a picture of the stone style for the great room,
and a picture of the brick style for the basement heater.

We want the wood stove to be as small as posible, black enameled cast, silver milled cooktop, side warmer shelves a plus (not a must)

That is a great cardboard mock-up.

You might be in a tough spot if you aren't flexible on the griddle.

Intrepid (Cat only, has griddle and I think warming shelves)
Pacific Energy T4 (not a griddle, but a cook top castiron)
Hampton H200 (no griddle, but does have warming shelves)
Lopi Leyden (non-cat, griddle, but larger)

I'm tired of looking, so that's my list of options.

Bar,
Thanks for looking,
Yeah I looked and looked, maybe thought I was missing something.
why is it what I am looking for never exists.

If you like the looks of the Intrepid II, why not get it? What don't you like about the cat?

I will have to reconsider, thought they may be "complacated" for the wife :)

Yeah, it's not hard on the Intrepid.

Throw in dry splits.
Bring temp up to 350-400.
Flip Lever to engage catalyst.
Reduce air accordingly.

My issue with the Intrepid is that it is way overpriced for what it is and the overpriced cat assembly parts. The 6-8 week wait on parts can be avoided by going to websites like Black Swan.
