Split the Red Oak I scored the other day. Gotta back the truck up to the pile and add it to my stash now :)

Real pretty straight grained stuff there! Almost like lumber. Nice. Bet it didn't work that splitter very hard.

That is some good looking wood Peter. Good looking tools too.

dang sure the prettiest load of red oak i've seen in a long time!

me, i got 10 cord+ of red oak and chestnut oak mixed.....i love the stuff.....burns the best!

Nice work. I love the smell of fresh split red Oak.

Good job
Split fire wood looks good, no matter where it's stacked,
but really good when it's in the back of your truck.

I like um both dump the split suff by the boiler and a truck load of logs up on the hill where I can get to cutting and splitting. Oh yah I like oak too

Red oak? I will split it by hand. Why let the log splitter had all the fun?

And red oak splits nicely with an axe if you are up to it. But just remember Gunks that everyone is not in the same boat here. I split wood using only an axe for many, many moons before someone gave me a splitting maul as a gift. However, the years sometimes take their toll as do accidents. Some us have been forced to graduate to hydraulic splitters and have come to really love them too, especially when you can split the wood vertically just like you do when splitting by hand. If I had to lift every piece up onto the splitter then I'd probably be in good enough shape to go back to splitting by hand. No, I'll sit and roll a log onto the splitter.

I'm getting a wooody looking at the truck load and splitter. "Just kidding!" I go both ways, I use a mall and a power splitter.

Ansehnlich how would you compare that red oak to the chestnut oak? I have burned alot of chestnut oak and it is excellent, I was wondering about the red oak.
