with temp headed for the 40's for as long as i can see- spring is here
how do i know?????? alvin, theodore and about 4 other chipmunks are having a ball in my wood pile..... so if the "kids" are out playing in full force already... we are not gonna see any deep freeze between now and Nov!
spring is here.....darnnit...

Yes, we too are finally seeing some temps sneaking into the 40s. We still have a lot of snow to melt off, but if the temps keep it up, it won't last long now!

Couldn't have gotten here at a better time. I am out of good wood, and I need the snow to melt off my processing area so I can finish splitting this weekend. My forecast looks like 40's for 2 weeks and then 50's for the last two weeks of March. Spring is here!

The big storms have not really hit us up north so my guess is the 3rd week of March to the 1st week of April we will get hit with a good storm. I'm ready for spring but Mother Nature is the BOSS!

Zap

Snowing here but not sticking. My father says we have about three inches at my house which is less than ten miles away and lower in elevation. Springtime in the south; go figure! The colder than normal winter has me out of good wood and working on next years supply already. I'll just have to work harder and make that up as best I can.

Saginaw has our first 40 degree day forecast for Friday. I noticed on accuweather they are forecasting our first 50 degree day a week from Saturday. Of course that is a long way ahead to have a very accurate forecast so we'll wait and see. We had some good melting yesterday thanks to the sunshine.

The only season better than winter is Spring!!

Sunny and 45 here this AM!! Tomato seeds are planted!

guess you didn't watch dick albert - we're getting snow tonight / tomorrow

Yup.. no more burning here. Its interesting how fast it hits, one weekend we had teens and 20's and the stove was cranking round the clock - next thing I know it went into the 40s and stayed there.

Today felt like it got near 50. Time to start cleaning the yard.

Yep...mid-Atlantic spring is here. 40s and raining. Repeat until May.

Spring for all you lower 48 folks, but March is
our big snow month,
Iditarod dog led race to Nome,
April is the Arctic man competition : http://www.snowmobiletrails.com/arctic_man/index.html
& with 11-12 hours or more of daylight, snow machine time.
Most folks who live remote spend March hauling fuel & other supplies to their cabins via the frozen river system.
It is 42° today however & I hope I'm proven wrong.

its been in the 40's here also. This weekend and early next week they want mid to upper 50's and low 60's! I am all but out of wood. I hope it stays warm.

Been watching Accuweather too, and forecast is for upper 30's-lower 40's most of the next 2 weeks (that's as far out as I looked).
HOWEVER, I got a surprise last night. I could have sworn the low was only supposed to get to about 17-18, so I didn't bother getting up in the middle of the night to reload the stove. When I got up this morning, the thermometer was showing 9, and the house was down to 56.
We had plans to leave for Houghton Lake at 10:30 with some friends, so I only had a couple hrs. to warm up the house. Good thing it got up to almost 40 today. I only had to get the house to about 67-68 before we left, and I put a couple small splits in before leaving.
No need for much of a fire during the day with these temps, but I don't believe for a second that we're done with winter just yet.
YMMV

i hate the muddy crappy gloomy (did I say muddy) early spring. We could skip that part of the season for all i care. I want to move straight to the 60s and dry ground.....

Still snowing here, more tomorrow. There could be daffodils under all that snow for all I know, but I haven't seen the ground in a long time. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I want to see what's going to turn up under the snowpack this Spring what with all the wind damage this Winter. Good news is that there ought to be plenty of scroungable wood around. Enjoy the warmup if you've got it, throw another coupla splits in the box if you don't.

Im 20 min east of you. I miss the cold weather already!

Still looks like winter here but a split is peeking through the snow. Maybe that means Spring is right around the corner.

Did you guys get any snow this past weekend BD? My sister down in Portage says they ended up with nearly 2 feet of fresh snow . . . after most of it had melted away in the warmth and rain from several days before.

snowing here now but nothing to stick, after todat as far as i can see 40's and up!
which means 1 fire in the evening so the house doesnt get to cold at night= spring shoulder season..... i have been running a pellet stove thats almost in the basement and it seems to be keeping the upstairs sleeping area around 70... not bad, maybe i am on to something for next year when it gets bitter and the summit which is onthe other end struggles..... just turn on the pellet and blast it!...

Its sticking here so far today but either way, I noticed buds on some rhododendrons and small trees yesterday while walking my dog......I have to say, I am ready for lawn mowing season.
