I have a storm/screen door to my deck that is fairly old but in decent shape. It is has a full glass insert that can be replaced with a mesh in the summertime, I'm guessing that since I've only lived there about 3 years, it's probably 10-15 years old?? Anyway, it has a deadbolt that is lockable from the outside via a key and inside via a knob and a lever handle on both sides.

Unfortunately, the inside lever is bent and is "out of phase" of the outer level and also bent down. doesn't affect the operation of the door but is kind of awkward.

I tried to remove the handle to see if I can fix it or replace it but I can't seem to get the assembly out. I might need the key which I don't have.

My question is do they actually sell replacement lock/handles for storm doors or would I have to buy a completely new one? I'm considering also trying to see if I can bend the handle back up using locking pliers on the outer lever and bending the inside one. (I think they are connected). But just wondering if they are replaceable if I can figure out how to remove it.

Looks like this:

(I guess that probably means that it is replacable if I can get the old one out somehow)

Although not that fancy, this is a basic white aluminum door with a glass/mesh insert.

I don't think I have the key for it and me thinks I need to take the lock out to remove the whole assembly...

I removed every screw that I can remove, to the point where the two faceplates (inside and outside) appear to be loose, yet somehow I'd have to get the handles off. It appears that there is a pin that goes through the handle that has no easy way of removing, like it's simply press fitted in. I could try a small pick and a hammer.... Also, the lock cyclinder looks like it might be impeding the faceplates from going apart...

I am sure this isn't a very fancy, expensive storm door, but more likely a cheap storm door where perhaps the handle/door was not ever meant to be replaced if that was ever an option. Just goes with the house which is functional and definitely not fancy.

Might try it again this weekend..

Take the door off, throw in back seat of car, take to local hardware store and ask for help.

Door hardware can be exceptionally tricky, not hard, just tricky.

One handle should have, probably an allen head bolt holding it on the shaft.Sometimes they can be a little tricky to see or find.

and don't try bending the handle back. the insides are usually garbage metal and you'll prob brake off the handle or handles. on the up side to that then you might be able to take it the rest of the way apart.

if easy to do what kenny said is your best bet for getting it repaired
