Just wondering how often you guys clean the cat. Just wondering if it should be taken out every once and a while as well just to be brushed off during the burning season?

yr 4, have never removed mine. A few brushings of the face and one vacuum this year after a load of Oak pallet scraps. Only time I noticed fly ash at the S.S. flame sheild. Never burnt anything in the stove above 18% M.C.

I popped the plate off and hit the face of it with a toothbrush after 5 or 6 cords. I think it may have lit off faster afterwards but not sure. Seemed to light off pretty quick before anyway.

just wasn't sure if there was like a routine cleaning to do. ill probably just hit it with the vacuum and paint brush at the end of the season.

I think a good rule of thumb is to brush or vacuum the cat about every cord of wood or if you know your wood is good and dry you could get by with once mid season.
