I have used woodpellets.com for the last two years but I am on the fence this year because of two reason's.

1) lack of selection

2) High price

The price of Oil is at a yearly high so should I hedge on pellets this year and buy early?

Where are oil prices going?

Personally, I think that the oil brokers may have learned their lesson last time around and wont spike the price so quickly. It will be a gradual increase this time around and wont come back down. They will play the "increase xxx amount, then bring it down only x amount" game leaving the price higher than it began but making it look like they brought it down.

Just my 2 pennies

That being said, I am very curious in how this will effect pellet pricing. This is the end of my first year burning and I have the exact same questions as NoMoreOPEC (I LOVE that one, it could not be more true!!!) OPEC can kiss my a$%&. I will be burning pellets.

Local Dealer is telling me they expect price drop after April 1st. I am waiting till then to see what shakes out. I also noticed woodpellets.com prices have not moved much in the past month or so. Their stuff now has "Early Buy" blurbs that it didn't have before. I'm in the wait and see camp.

At the moment our Cubex price is good until June. NEWP hasn't told us what prices will be after April but I have a feeling they will at least stay the same maybe even go down. With the glut of pellets out there I would think prices would be allot lower its going to be an odd year for pellet sales I think.

pelletsales.com is changing things over a bit: they are still gonna offer online sales to consumers, but they are also installing a program to service pellet dealers: the dealer (stove shop, hardware/feed store, etc.) will take an order from a consumer, the order is emailed to the company, and within 5-7 days the order is trucked to the customer direct from pellet sales (to be renamed american biomass i thx). they are even offereing their own pellet brand made for them by an outside pellet vendor (the sales guy told me it was the same co that makes okies, maybe btu can weigh in on that). The delivered price per ton looked pretty good, and there was a minimum order (i.e. no single pallet deliveries.) they will also be offering delivery on bio brick type product.

they also have a product they unvield at the HPBA expo: a bulk pellet bin for bulk delivery w/ a syphon system that shoots pellets from the outside bin direct into a station in your home where you place a container to fill up w/ out lugging bags around.

I thinx that pellet vendor is Eagle valley. out of BC. I also thinx the pellet is what there bagging as Cleanfire Pacific.

IMO they are going to have to decrease there prices for spring. No where near what I can get locally right now on the spring buy deals. I also agree there selection is very weak! My local dealers have at least 20 different brands to play with. Plus I can try before I buy. Not so with woodpellets.com(aka pelletsales)! Plus I rather like the fact my local dealers know me by name. Pretty much know what brands I like too!

The only problem is with bulk, you're stuck with NEWP....I looked but could find out how much a bulk container costs. I would guess you rent it?

I don't think bulk is a good idea with pellets. Not having to move bags would be nice in a way but at the same time if you did want to move them for some reason your now dealing with one big bin full of many pounds. Also the pellets bouncing around in a feed pipe into the truck then back out into your bin seems like it might create allot of fines. Plus the bin, some one is selling them in NY for $300 and then savings from bulk to bagged is not that high so the pay off is about 10 years. Just my opinion though I know I will never get into a bulk delivery system.

I dont think there is really enough difference in price between bulk and bagged to justify bulk....$15-$20/ton?

as far as price goes. it should be on the downward trend. Local shop went from 5.25 to 4.95 a few weeks ago then sent a card out for 4.50 a bag for early buy on Somersets.

i was told by Wodpellets.com that their Cleanfire Pacific is made by Westwood...which also makes Oakanagan. Whether or not they have renewed their contract with Westwwoood, only BTU can tell you that.

How long is it gonna take the gubmint to jump in on the price fixin's and monopolizin's that's goin' on? In 2 years we're gonna have 3 pellet companies, sellin' 97 brands of pellets, made in 283 different mills, from 986 species of tree, with a different price for each brand, and everybody sayin', "Them pellets is crap, my stove only burns these". But, hey, what do I know? Big truck, bulk delivery, Organization of Pellet Controlling Scammerhorns, OPCS, got a catchy kinda ring to it, huh?

Take a look at the line up of managers of woodpellets.com; quite a long pedigree. Their website is awesome too. Organized. Organized. Organized. Two clicks and WHAMO!! 2.6 tons on its way...ONLY $752.74. Ouch. They know they have the advantage and are taking advantage of it.

well, they certainly have a very well-organized website, but I dont know why so expensive either........pellet prebuy letters are starting to "hit the streets" now, and they seem cheaper than pelletsales.com or woodpellets.com or whatever monicker they are using today. Its odd, because they are usually "right there" price-wise. Also correct in that the folks running the company are quite intelligent and well-educated, maybe they see something the rest of us dont? Maybe they expect the prices to remain high this year? A real conundrum.

Well someone has to pay for their suits and ties. They not going to sell pellets for a loss. They might have a bigger overhead to tend with and to back those loans. Thats IMO.
