Does anyone have any suggestions for cutting a log that had barbed wire on it years ago, other than borrowing somebodies saw!

carbide or just hope you get lucky! most of the time you can see where it went into the tree and just cut around it...

I now leave those sections (1st 4-5' of trunk). Just not worth it. Bad on chain, not great splitting. Time's better spent on the next tree.

Yes, if I know there is some junk in the tree, I'll just leave that section. It is not worth it.

If you can get ahold of a metal detector that can help. We have used the wand type and the long ones before milling with the CSM depending on how long it has been in there sometimes you can see what looks almost like a seam.

Would a hand held stud finder work? The kind that reads the studs by detecting nails in it?

I have a big old section of an elm with barbed wire in it . . . it can sit there and rot . . . not worth me ruining a chain for the wood when there is plenty of other wood for the taking that I know are safe to cut.

Shouldn't find any barb wire above 5'.
