My stove stopped feeding yesterday and so it died while i was gone to the shooting club. The wife said it just shut off? No big deal right? Well the first thing I checked was the hopper, but it was 3/4 full. Next to check for is an auger jam, so I opened the door and gave the auger itself a pull thinking it was jammed up. The thing came right out without a problem. So next I pulled the back cover off thinking the Motor had loosened itself up and rotated off the auger plate. Nope. It did that when I first got the stove. Only one set screw holds the motor in place on mine so you really have to tork it down for it to stay in place. Hmmmm so I turn the stove on to run it through the startup and sure enough the auger motor isnt turning. :( for the heck of it I give it a tap with the handle of a screw driver and errrrr it kicks on. Sweet! 15 minutes later it died again.

Well looks like I'm calling Englander today. Bummer because I was almost ready to retire it for the season. I think I had pretty much a month or so with no auger jams or other issues. Oh well at least its not 0 degree's outside right? On the upside since I have been running straight corn through it I'm really impressed with the heat it kicks out. I have been running it on 1 and 3 and it keeps the house at 75 and above even with the 30 degree nights. We shut it down in the day time since its been in the high 50's for the last week or so. Sorry all you pellet pigs, i've been converted to corn :) Does this mean i'm a Corn Cow?

Englander auger motors...fun stuff. Sometimes you can clean the motor cap and spacer bushing...often times the motor just gets burnt out. If you can afford it, order two and keep one as a spare. How cold will it be when the other one quits?

Thats what my regular furnace is for.

Stove is still under warrenty so price is a non factor. So at this point I have replaced the stir motor, auger motor, exhaust fan motor, brick liner and burn pot. Not bad for 7 months old. :) When I called them today the guy had a bit of a tude with me. It was sort of amusing actually. I'm sure it was because he had looked at the history of parts they have sent me under warranty.

Their auger motor assemblies need to be improved for durability. The problems could arise (partially) from the lubricant (grease)in lower gear housing . It just doesn`t stand up . It`s looks very similar to a petroleum jelly and it melts from the heat. I think someone said previously that they had replaced theirs with a high temperature lubricant (grease) .
