A flat piece of metal with two holes in it fell to the ground while I was bucking firewood with my Stihl MS250. The photo is attached. Is it from the saw? Is it important? What is the procedure to replace it? The saw seems to work the same as before and it isn't obvious where it came from.

That doesnt look like a saw part.

I will take a quick look on my 250 and see if it had anything like that on it.

First I will say I have never seen a part like that on any of my saws and I did have a 250 for a while . Second usually if a part falls off a stihl saw its a pretty major deal , I would think the saw would not operate properly .

OK, thanks. I won't worry about the saw and the origin of the piece of metal will just be a mystery. I guess it was somehow stuck to the piece of wood I was cutting and fell off.

Oh no, you've lost the flux capacitor . . . now you'll never be able to go back in time and find out what that metal part was connected to. ;) :)

If you want, PM me an e-mail address and I will e-mail you the Illustrated Parts List... But quick answer, no it does not look like anything that came from the factory on the MS250. I'v had mine moderately torn down and not come across anything like it.

+1 on the flux capacitor

Don't see anything that looks similar , only parts on exterior that type metal is in exaust area. Maybe someone added an extra metal shroud over the muffler area check and see if the studs match up. Just above where the bar attaches you will see the exaust and there are 2 studs and nuts that hold a metal shroud on check those for fit with the part you have.

That's about the only place I see ...... that is unless mine fell off also !
