I scorunge from building sites i was in such a hurry to get the wood into the truck last week i didnt realize what i was cutting up. black walnut there was 7 total. the straightest ones i cut up lol easier to split i was figuring. 3 are still there the biggest ones. the ones i cut were 18" at the bottom going 20-25 feet straight before the trunk split. The only real damage to the trees was some bark ripped off by backhoe. how much could i have gotten anyone know?. ill get pics posted

I can not tell you what THAT walut was worth.
What I can tell you is an old friend who is not one year dead used to grow most of their food.
One time a year he would make several trip hauling logs to a mill to raise cash to pay the taxes and buy the staples for the year.
I remember one year he raised all the needed money with ONE black walnut tree and he didn't have to touch it.
The man that wanted the veneer logs cut the tree down and took them.
The next guy cut and took the upper logs.
The third guy took all of the limbs.
One tree.

I've heard of nice big trunks going for the low 1000 buck range, like Rustaholic said. I've heard more often around 400-700 bucks along the way, too. I've never met anybody who's done it, it's always somebody who knows somebody. if I knew about a good way to get some black walnut to a person who'd give me cash for it, then I'd be a rich guy because I got more of it than i know what to do with.
I'm open to hearing about what to do with these tree trunks. will any mill pay for them?

Wood Miser has a database that has contact info for purchasers of their bandsaw mills. The idea is to get business for them in order to justify the cost of an expensive machine. Contact them by phone and they will give you several owners in your area. Cut boards are a lot easier to sell than a whole tree trunk.

its hard to say whats it worth. Already milled much more that trunks and thats if theres no medal and now you have to dry it. 4.00 bucks a board ft if everything is good.

By me the only people that will buy a few is the local guy with his own chainsaw sawmill. The big guys are afraid of nails etc and will not give you anything. But as they say, location, location, location!

Also if the tree is not cut right you can ruin it for quite a ways up the trunk. Most loggers around here want to drop the trees themselves to prevent damage to the tree.

My neighbor cut a few that were nice size and clean. He could barely give away the logs. Sawmills around here don't want them, because they have to shutdown and clean out all of the sawdust. Most sell sawdust for bedding, and black walnut can make horses and other animals sick.

ahh. yes, I thought so, Walnut is probably one of the hottest woods right now, next to low grade red and white oak
Once in a while you can get big money for black walnut, years ago they used a helicopter to get some out of a valley you could not drive to, a few times they have logged oak from areas around here and they leave a mess.
You had your best opportunity to unload the trees about a year ago. I am not sure if walnut is still a hot commodity but it is worth trying. When gun sales were booming they were buying it in any quantity and surprisingly not picky about its source as long as the trunk met the minimum 50 inches in circumference. My friend was finally able to unload after years of trying his suburban trees on a 6 acre plot.
