Who are all the CAT stove manufactures out there? I know of Buck, Blaze King, Woodstock, VC and?? I'm not looking to purchase another stove right now but in the future I may look at a CAT stove. I'm not a soapstone fan or a VC fan. I don't think the Buck or Blaze King stove will get my wife approval. Who else we got?

Energy King, Country Flame, Appalachian and Kuma are a few more. Not very many good lookers in the cat catagory. Energy King is made a couple miles from my house and they look way better in person than their web site and are built like a tank.

It is unfortunate that most cat stoves look like they came out of the 70s. Also look carefully at the flue requirements as just about all of them that are big enough to heat an average sized home require an 8" flue. What's it gonna take for the Lopi, Jotul, and other modern stovemakers to make a nice looking big cat stove with a stat like a BL except attractive ?

New tougher EPA standards.

That's what I'm finding! My Lopi may not be the best looking stove on the market but it's a sharp steel looking steel stove. imo It has more style then just looking like a square metal box, I think the step top on a steel stove really helps to add some style. I won't be buying another stove for years but maybe by then someone will have a good looking steel stove with a CAT. If I was heating from my basement I'd have a king and never look back.

Or down either. ;-P

If you heated with a King for a season, you would get over what it looks like.

Jotul used to have cat stoves.

Jotul used to have cat stoves.

Then they wised up.

If you make it through a whole heating season and your oil tank level has not budged, meaning no oil consumption for this year as it was a mild winter. Only averaged -20c. It starts to look pretty good.

If I had an oil tank it probably would. Or any other heat source but that beauty of a non-cat up here on the first floor where we can see it.

Like I have always said, if I heated from the basement it would be a cat stove. Like watching a heat pump run.

Well there ya go. Most people don't watch there furnace run either. They just simply heat with it. Good observation BB.

If I am going to bust my old ass cutting/hauling/splitting/stacking/lugging that wood then I want to watch a nice fire when it is burning. :cheese:

North of 60 is right! Hunt, fish, family, church, eat (not neccessarily in that order) and oh yeah....once every other day I have to load my King! I have better things to do than watch the fire...and if I want to, I can just turn up the thermostat and watch the fire.

Country Flame still makes one too - looks similar to the bigger Buck Stoves, etc.

Yeah, I've seen that one in action, it's a great heater and can easily burn over 16 hours.

But look at that thing, it's a freaking hexagon. The side windows look fake and the front door has a goofy unnecessary hump in it. The flue outlet looks to be an old style square adapted to round. It would fit in great with popcorn ceilings, orange shag carpet, and lime green countertops. Maybe a corvair in the garage.

I know Jotul made a cat stove and that latest build report showed how nice a cat stove can look making me wish more cat stoves were made. Heck, didn't englander once make a cat stove?

The Corvair brings back memories.....like the time my mother filled it up with diesel, a couple miles down the road it needed a CAT it was smoking so bad :eek:hh:

Lava lamp. Gotta have a lava lamp on top of it.

Go away for the warmer months and the BBF gets some attention..just not real good. I guess the looks of one stove over another is a personal preference but, I like how it heats and the price was right. None of the steel stoves win any styling awards IMO. I went from a Big Jack furnace to this so heat has always been the important thing to me over looks anyway.

BTW: I don't care to own a Corvair but, the '69 Charger R/T 440 4 speed in my garage goes quite well with my BBF. The BBF gets the workout during the winter and the Charger gets the workout in the summer. As a disclaimer I did get rid of the shag carpet and old countertops though. Not all things from "back in the day" were bad....my BBF is used as an insert and heats 2300sqft. I have another freestanding one for the basement when it gets finished. Since it is getting close to heating season I will have to soon start posting about my BBF experiences again.

Later.

Jotul already went the cat direction and dropped them.

I don't think I would.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have a stove that worked like a Blaze King. The design really would prevent me from buying one, though.

We thought the same way. However, after 4 years with 2 pretty stoves that either didn't heat the house or overheated the house and were a PIA to operate, our priorities changed. The ease of operation, huge firebox and wide range of efficient output trump all else for me. But, that's why they make stoves in all sizes and flavors.
