24 in. on that saw would be real slow. Out west that would be the set up for softwoods

oregon JG sawchain will improve the saws performance. it is skip sequence.
it's made for long guide bars.

It will depend on what you do with the extra length. 4 more inches of bar adds the weight and mass of 8 inches of chain. How much effort can it take to spin 8 inches of chain through the air? If you intend to cut 4 more inches of wood that is another matter but then again a skip chain can help.

the Oregon that came with it is a safety chain unless you bought it knew? Oregon has good chains as well as woodland pro and stihl and of course you know about the Carlton.

The 460 has the same bar mount ("small mount") as the 455 and 359 and a whole bunch of other saws. Baileys sells 24" and even 28" bars that will fit, but whether the saw has enough oomph to pull that much chain through that much wood is another question. I recently got a 24" bar bundled w/ full-comp chisel (only $35 for the bar, BTW, and $45 for the bundle), and also picked up a skip chain (the aforementioned JG) figuring that the 359 might not have enough power. Well, nose buried in red oak was no problem with the full comp, so I haven't even tried the skip chain. But if I ever want to run the 24" bar on my 455 then the skip might still come in handy, as it's a step below the 359.
